Agenda Review: Delete #9 (Northside Aztlan Community Center Update) Citizen Participation: None. Agenda: DISCUSSION ON ENVIRONMENTAL/OUTDOOR EDUCATION Brett Bruyere and Tom Conway from the Environmental Learning Center led a discussion with the Board about ways to entice older students to visit the ELC and participate in environmental education. A survey was distributed to Board members for their review and comments about the activities listed there and what Board members envision as obstacles to participation by teens. Board members suggested that school announcements and school newspapers were methods of publicizing ELC's activities, but they all agreed that peer involvement is the key ingredient to participation. Brett's opinion is that the high adventure piece that ELC would offer is the hook that would get participants to learn about the environmental piece. In order to offer adventure activities, ELC Youth Advisory Board Minutes November 6, 2002 Page 2 would partner with some vendor(s) so as to attract junior and senior high students for educational programming. Board and staff members suggested that the survey be distributed at schools in homerooms, that school credit be given for participation, and that perhaps students could volunteer in exchange for the participation fee. REVIEW DRAFT OF SURVEY Recreation staff, with Board members' input, prepared a survey that will hopefully determine what local youths want and need. The draft of the survey was distributed, and revisions were made. Copies will be ready for Board members to pick up on Friday, November 8 for Board members to take to local junior and senior high schools. The results will be tabulated and will become part of the Board's work plan. DEVELOP WORK PLAN The following is the work plan that will be submitted to the City Clerk's office. 1.
