Call Meetine to Order:
Meeting called to order at 7:03 p.m.
Approval of Minutes from April 2, 2003:
There was no quorum, so minutes were not approved.

YOUTH ENGAGEMENT COMMITTEE
Kathy Wolfe presented information on a committee that has been formed from the Healthier Community
Coalition, 4-H, FirstCall and TEAM Fort Collins to promote youth/adult partnerships. A grant has been
received from the Bohemian Foundation for this committee to visit youth -serving organizations to recruit
youths to serve on boards, advisory councils, etc. There is currently a law in Colorado, which this
committee wishes to overturn, that prohibits people younger than 18 from serving on boards.
The committee is looking for sophomores and juniors to go through the training and then serve on a board
for a year or more. They are also looking for youths to train as trainers; training will begin in the fall.
Interested persons can attend the training even though they may not want to commit as a trainer.

The purpose of this concept is to get people in Larimer County to think differently about youths and what
they can contribute and to value their leadership abilities and accept their input. YAB members were asked
to share this information with others that might be interested.
SURVEY DISCUSSION WITH COLORADOAN STAFF MEMBER
A staff member from the Coloradoan was unable to attend.
Copies of the Youth Survey Results have been distributed to the City Manager and City Council. City
Councilman Bill Bertschy wanted the Board to know what a great job was done on it, and he appreciated
receiving the information.
YOUTH ACTIVITY CENTER UPDATE/FUND-RAISING
The May calendar and April participation report were distributed by staff. Emphasis was placed on the
YouthFest scheduled for May 30 at the YAC — lots of fun activities, food, battle of the bands, speakers,
skits, booths. $5 tickets are available for sale.
A roller hockey rink has been set up in the parking lot at the YAC for drop -in participation.
$250,000 has recently been added to the fund-raising effort for the gym, bringing the total to $512,000.
$2,000 was received from Turning Point, and an El Pomar grant from RMHS will be received tomorrow
night. The Youth fund-raising team is hosting a luau at City Park Pool on July 15. There will be cool
prizes and fun games for families at the newly -renovated pool.
NORTHSIDE AZLTAN COMMUNITY CENTER UPDATE
Frank Martinez distributed information on the summer basketball league; registration begins May 15, and
staff is seeking scorekeepers. Cinco de Mayo was held last weekend, and a talent show is scheduled for
May 31.
Staff is hoping to pull together an effective reading program for summer. If Board members know of any
teachers or students who might be interested in helping develop such a program, let the Northside staff
know.
OTHER BUSINESS
• The Youth Advisory Board received a note from the City Manager thanking them for their input on
budget preparation.
