F. 970) 4024 DISCUSSION ITEMS IV. Umbrella Organization discussion The Board continued the discussion regarding organizations that are part of a larger "umbrella" and those that have national chapters. The board decided that it is acceptable to fund events of organizations whose primary mission is to fund another organizations, i.e., the Symphony Guild. If organization "A" gives funds to a second organization `B", it must be the sole purpose of the organization "A" to disburse funds to organization `B" (i.e., the fundraising arm of the organization "B"). The Board also agreed that it is acceptable for Fort Fund to organizations that give a percentage of their profits to a national chapter The Board discussed the difference between funding events and funding organizations. The Board asked to add a phrase to the funding criteria encompassing how the profits of the event will be used. The Board will rephrase this part of the guidelines at the May or June meeting. V. Colorado Committee for the Arts Business Award Nomination The Board discussed details about the nomination. Conunittee members Jennifer Sterling Beccard and Ann Wilmsen will make a time line for the nomination process and prepare a list of people to contact to assist in the nomination. They will give an update to the Board in May. VI. City Budget/Policy Agenda Preparation Input The Board discussed ideas for items to include in memos to the City Manager regarding the 2003-2005 Policy Agenda and Budget. Items included re -instating the Curator of Education position at the Museum. This position represents 20% of their full time employees. Staff will work on drafts with Chairperson, Ayleen Burns and email copies to the Board for review. VII. Period Review Process Karla Smith, Boards and Commissions Coordinator sent a memo and questionnaire to the Board requesting information about the Cultural Resources Board (e.g. duties, functions, communication, etc.). A separate sub -committee was formed to address this item. Ayleen Burns, Jennifer Sterling Beccard and Jon Wilkinson will prepare a draft of the document and will bring it to the May meeting. The questionnaire is due to the City Clerk on July 7, 2003. VIII. Citizen Participation Ruth Skogerboe of the Commission on Disabilities talked about a "Creative Abilities Art Show" for artists with disabilities. She explained the functions of the commission and how it works toward providing practical housing for people with disabilities. The Commission is sponsoring the art show that will take place October 11-12 at Foothills Fashion Mall. She is currently is participating in outreach activities to "spread the word" regarding this event. Anne Macdonald of Arts Alive described new programs developing at the organization. Programs include collaborative after -school programming with CSU and Poudre-RI for at - risk youths and workshops for local artists. She invited a member of the CRB Board to attend future Arts Alive meetings. IX. Review of Fort Fund Events - Riverboat the Rockies — Ayleen Burns — Banners were hung, good attendance, logo was used. Very nice event. Women in Excellence — Footprint Lecture Series — logo was used and Fort Fund was mentioned as a sponsor. The cost was $15. The Board discussed that the price was too high. There were approximately 100 audience members. X. Committee Reports - CVB- Ann Wilmsen — Marty Tharp presented a comprehensive view of where council stands on the issue of the transportation tax they proposed. The CVB endorses the tax. The topic of a new performing arts center was re -visited. She also reported a proposal to use the kiosk in Old Town as a visitor's center. The CVB is investigating changing their logo. Art in Public Places — Jon Wilkinson — No report (cancelled due to snow storm) Museum — Jack Steele — The Museum is still under construction and it is going well. There will be a retreat next month to discuss long term goals. They will host a Community Gala on May 10`h. XI. Other Business — Staff reported that CSU's English Department had to reschedule the March event for Autumn 2003 due to the recent snow storm. Since this event had already been rescheduled from October, 2002, the Board requested that the English Department re -apply for funds for this event in June, 2003 Jennifer Sterling Beccard moved for the CSU English Department to re -apply for their re- scheduled event at the June, 2003 funding session. The exhibition feature works in all media. One Hundred and twenty-two artists from across the U.S. have been selected by juror Timothy R. Thies of Manchester Center, Vermont. The juror selected 150 pieces of art for this show from over 1,000 submitted. Eighteen states, plus Colorado, are represented in the show. 417 West Magnolia • Fort Collins, CO 50521-2646 • (970) 221-6735 • FAX 197M 4S4-Oti34 City of Fort Collins Cultural, L-orary and Recreational Services Fort Collins Museum FORT COLLINS MUSEUM REPORT CULTURAL RESOURCES BOARD March -April 2003 STAFF The position of Curator of Education is still vacant, due to the hiring freeze imposed by the City in response to the downturn in the economy and reduction in tax revenue. A timetable for lifting the hiring freeze has not been established. CONSTRUCTION The construction on the lower level to create the new entrance, lobby, Museum Store, and information desk is complete. The entrance was opened on April 15`h. The sidewalks and permanent signs will be installed in the coming months. The Community Gala -Open House introducing the new entrance and two new exhibits is scheduled for May 10`h, 1-4:30p.m. with a free concert in the park from 4:30 - 6:30p.m. FRANZ-SMITH CABIN RESTORATION The architectural drawings were completed the end of March for the cabin restoration. The bidding process for the general contractor to perform the restoration will be the end of April. We anticipate construction commencing in early June. PROGRAMS The Museum again hosted registration for the United Way's Sharin' of the Green run in March. Summer Courtyard Program registration began on April I't. The Museum will run 11 Boxelder sessions, GRANTS The Museum received a grant from the National Park Service to fund the repatriation of four Native American human remains in the Museum's collection to the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes of Oklahoma. Repatriation and reinterment of the remains is expected to take place in June 2003. EXHIBITS History Floods Fort Collins, permanent history gallery. The Overland Trail Gallery will be closed until after construction. The next exhibit, Aerial Kite Photography, will open as part of the grand re -opening on May 10. The North Gallery will also be closed until May 10, due to budget cuts and construction.
