Magnolia 9/20 /20 23 – MINUTES Page 1 1. CALL TO ORDER: 3:34 PM 2. ROLL CALL a) Board Members Present – Natalie Barnes, Kathy Bauer Myra Powers, Renee Sherman, Heidi Shuff, Christopher Staten, and Nancy Zola b) Board Members Absent – c) Staff Members Present – Ellen Martin, Liz Good d) Cultural Resources Board Liaison – Not present e) Guests – Mark Leichliter 3. AGENDA REVIEW 4. PUBLIC PARTICIPATION 5. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Ms. Powers moved to approve the Minutes from August 16. Ms. Zola seconded. Unanimously approved 6. NEW BUSINESS a) COLLEGE AVENUE SIGNALS PROJECT REVIEW Ms. Martin introduced the project. Artist Mark Leichliter was in attendance and presented the art project. The intention of the art is to add art to the signal poles and to introduce nature into the environment with leaf motifs. The simplified half - leaves include stylized text that says the street names. The sculptures will be placed above the signal arm and below the streetlight. They are 5 feet tall and will be about 18 feet off the ground. If the Board approves, the project will be reviewed and approved by CDOT as College Ave. is a highway. Ms. Zola moved to approve this design. Ms. Sherman seconded. Unanimously approved. b) 2024 WORK PLAN Ms. Martin presented a draft based on previous versions. The Board asked to add Bus Art to the Transportation section, with the age range of artists who participated. The was a request for more images, however it was explained that ART IN PUBLIC PLACES REGULAR MEETING 9/20 /20 23 – MINUTES Page 2 it is a template and the Annual Report is where we typically share images . Staff will update and bring a final version. c) PROJECT UPDATES Ms. Martin shared updates of current projects, including Pianos About Town, Storm Drain Murals, Laporte Bridges, and Vine and Lemay. 7. STAFF REPORT Ms. Martin shared highlights from the report. The report will be emailed to the Board. 8. OTHER BUSINESS There was a discussion about the positive impacts of having art around town. The Board asked about updates on The Carnegie building. 9. ADJOURNMENT 4:35 PM Minutes approved by the chair and a vote of the Board/Commission on 11/15/23.
