HomeMy WebLinkAbout2024 - Economic Advisory Board - Work PlanWork Plan City of Fort Collins Economic Advisory Board (EAB)2024 Work Plan Duties and Functions of the Board I am pleased to present the work plan for the upcoming year of the City of Fort Collins Economic Advisory Board (EAB).The EAB makes recommendations to the City Council and City staff on areas of particular knowledge or expertise.Recommendations made by advisory boards are formal opinions to the City Council on items and subjects that are on the boards'approved work plans. Those recommendations may include: 1.Advising on matters pertaining to the economic health and sustainability of the City,including, but not limited to: a.External events and trends that may affect the local economy. b.Short-term and Long-term opportunities or threats to the local economy. c.Enhancing the City's competitive position in relation to other communities.And d.Partnering with other public and private entities. 2.Recommending programs and strategies that may enhance the economic health and sustainability of the City; 3.Coordinating efforts with other City boards and commissions whose actions may affect the economic health and sustainability of the City;and 4.Advising on existing or proposed policies,practices or regulations of the City that may affect the local economy. Priority Work Plan Topics for 2024 The EAB has carefully curated a selection of critical topics that will guide our efforts in 2024 in fostering economic health,sustainability,and prosperity within our community.These topics represent our commitment to promoting innovation,inclusivity,equity,environmental sustainability,and resilience in the local economy,and we are excited to collaborate with stakeholders,experts,and community members to address these important issues.Together,we look forward to shaping a vibrant economic landscape for Fort Collins in the year ahead. 2024 EAB Work Plan Topics Topic Charter Aligned Board & Commun ity Interest Council Initiative (Impact) Upcoming Action Economic Health Strategic Plan Implementatio n X X X Periodically review the plan at key Milestones,including stakeholder engagement interview. Climate and Circular Economy X X X Presentation on Our Climate Future.Responding to new programs related to Climate Action Plan. Adopting and promoting practices to equality benefit businesses,society,and the environment Regionalism & Industry Cluster Study X X X Engage with Northern Colorado Regional Economic Development Initiative to understand how the EAB can support and facilitate this work. Water Supply Requirement (WSR) X X X Providing feedback and advice as required. East Mulberry Corridor X X X Providing feedback and advice as required. Land Use Code Phase 1 &2 X X X Identifying pros and cons of the new Land Use Code.And,providing recommendations as required. EAB Strategic Priorities As the EAB considers and weighs in on the priority work topics above,we will use our expertise to consider how the following might impact or be impacted by Council /development decisions: ●Wellbeing,equity,and sustainability goals as embodied by the City ’s various strategic plans; ●Opportunities and risks for local businesses; ●Connection with the broader State of Colorado's economic goals and policies;and ●Relevance of State and Federal incentive programs. Additionally,we recognize that economics is a cross-cutting system for the City of Fort Collins,and that more effort is needed to bridge departmental and City Board silos.We aim to keep this as a focal point of our discussions and find ways in which to better collaborate with other City Boards, City Staff,and Councilmembers. Relationship of Work Plan Topics to City Council Agenda and Priorities The EAB board will periodically review the City Council planning agenda and update priorities as needed.And,at the same time,this board welcomes direct input and advice from the City Council in relation to the topic listed above and other topics that may impact the City’s economic health. In summary,the City of Fort Collins Economic Advisory Board (EAB)is confident to take on a year filled with action and purpose.With our selected topics at the forefront,we are dedicated to steering economic growth,sustainability,and innovation in our community.Together,we will work to make Fort Collins a thriving hub of opportunity and prosperity for all.
