HomeMy WebLinkAbout2022 - Youth Advisory Board - Annual Report City of Fort Collins Youth Advisory Board 2022 Annual Report The Youth Advisory Board was created by City Council resolution on April 19, 1994. The purpose of the Youth Advisory Board is to gather information from, and otherwise communicate with, other groups, organizations and agencies regarding youth-oriented issues and problems; to document and discuss issues of importance to youth in the Fort Collins community, specifically as they relate to City- operated services; to review and discuss legislation that may affect youth; and to recommend to City Council local legislation and policy actions or changes which would enhance the status of youth in the Fort Collins community. In 2022, the Youth Advisory Board held 5 meetings. The Board did not meet in the months of June, July, August, September, October, November, or December. This was due to not having enough committee members to hold a meeting. 2022 Youth Advisory Board Goals & Work Plan The following interests, goals, and initiatives were brought forward by board members and incorporated into the Work Plan. • Attend and view city council meetings. Share youth input through YAB meetings, letters of recommendation, and City Council Meetings • Increase youth awareness of city initiatives, programs, and events • Support the coordinated efforts to align the goals of youth driven organizations. • Offer support to local initiatives through letters of support and tours of City of Fort Collins facilities. • Continue to conduct meetings in a manner that prioritizes safety of board members amidst the continuation of the COVID-19 Pandemic. • Discuss Ranked Choice Voting and make a recommendation. • The board has requested a future presentation on Our Climate Future • Continue discussions around the Plastic Bag Tax/Ban and the Climate Action Plan 2022 Youth Advisory Board Discussions & Accomplishments • Sarah shared strategies for creating successful plan & relayed to Board members that Council Liaison/Mayor Pro Tem Emily Francis would be attending the next meeting to review calendar and host discussion/questions. • Board members reviewed Council Planning Calendar • Finalize 2022 Work Plan – a motion was made and was passed to approve the 2022 Work Plan. • Emily Francis, Council Liaison/Mayor Pro Tem: Mayor Pro Tem Francis spoke about her role in relation to YAB and City Council and gave her support for YAB to increase engagement with Council, stating that the youth voice in the community is valued by Council and welcomed at Council meetings. • YAB recruitment in schools – board members will create and distribute flyers to peers at their schools with QR code to YAB webpage and invitation to May 6 meeting. •
