At our February 28, 2011 meeting, the AQAB developed the following recommendation for your consideration. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. Thank you for the opportunity to provide input on the Building Code – Green Amendment Update. Greg McMaster moved and Nancy York seconded the following motion: After reviewing the benefits and costs of the proposed Building Code Green Amendments for residential and commercial construction at the Feb. 28 AQAB meeting, the Board recommends adoption of the proposed plan. We believe the benefits of adoption far outweigh the costs and align with other Council initiatives such as the Energy Policy (2009), Water Conservation Plan (2009) and Climate Action Plan (2008). Additional comments of the board are: o In estimating the benefits of the proposed amendments we feel a very conservative approach was taken. o To successfully implement the proposals, additional staffing of 1.5 FTE would be required. We support this investment. o We support the immediate implementation of the electric heating amendments. o The Board feels urgent action is needed to address long-term sustainability and views the Building Code Green Amendments as a timely and positive step forward. Motion passed unanimously (6-0-0)
