Subject: Climate Action Plan
The Natural Resources Advisory Board met on January 21, 2015, to consider the findings of the
Climate Action Plan Citizen Advisory Committee. The subject is the updated Climate Action
Plan, particularly its recommendations for citywide reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. The
purpose of this communication is to report to Council the findings of the Natural Resources
Advisory Board.
The Natural Resources Advisory Board supports the aspirational greenhouse-gas-reduction
community goals set forth in resolution 2014-028 of the City of Fort Collins City Council. The
Citizen Advisory Committee participated in preparation of an updated Climate Action Plan
framework that identifies specific actions which, when implemented, will accomplish the above
community goals.
At our January 21 meeting, the Natural Resources Advisory Board unanimously passed a motion
to endorse the suite of strategies in the draft framework. The updated Plan framework suggests
cessation by 2030 of coal combustion for electric power generation is necessary to reach the
greenhouse gas reduction targets. The updated Plan framework has been subjected to a
sustainability assessment by City staff and found to meet social, environmental, and economic
criteria.
