HomeMy WebLinkAboutArt In Public Places Board - Minutes - 07/20/2022Art in Public Places REGULAR MEETING July 20, 2022, 3:30 pm Virtual, Via Zoom 7/20/2022 /202 2 – MINUTES Page 1 1.CALL TO ORDER 3:33 pm 2.ROLL CALL •Board Members Present – Natalie Barnes, Kathy Bauer, Miriam Chase, Sabrina Davies, and Heidi Shuff •Board Members Absent – Gwen Hatchette •Staff Members Present – Ellen Martin, Liz Good, Heather McDowell •Cultural Resources Board Liaison – None Present •Guests – Lisa Cameron Russell, Aerica Van Dorn 3.AGENDA REVIEW 4.CITIZEN PARTICIPATION Aerica Van Dorn shared that she is presenting Lumance, an art and science exhibit, at Art Lab opening August 5 and on view for the first 3 weeks in August. 5.APROVAL OF MINUTES – June 15, 2022 Ms. Chase moved to approve the Minutes as they stand. Ms. Barnes seconded. Unanimously approved. 6.BUSINESS, PRESENTATION, OR DISCUSSION: A)TRANSFORMER CABINET MURAL DESIGN REVIEW Ms. Martin presented designs from artists Allie Ogg, Noel Miller, and Terry McNerney. Aerica Van Dorn was in attendance to share her design. There was a discussion about vehicles on the private property near Aerica Van Dorn’s cabinet. Ms. Bauer moved to accept the four designs that were presented. Ms. Shuff seconded Unanimously approved B)GLENMOOR POND DESIGN REVIEW Ms. Martin presented an overview of the project. Heather McDowell the Utilities Project Manager shared the background, and goals of the project to beautify the space and make the area more welcoming. The team worked with theme of pollinator gardens and incorporated a community project with Polaris Expeditionary Learning School. Artist Lisa Cameron Russell shared the concept for the artwork. Lisa worked with the second-grade students to create drawings of pollinators that will be combined with flower imagery by Lisa for the weathering Art in Public Places REGULAR MEETING 7/20 /202 2 – MINUTES Page 2 steel cutouts that will be attached to the existing guardrail fence along Taft Hill Rd. The intention is that people can see the art from the road. There will be a large area of tall grass between the sidewalk and guardrail. The pollinator gardens will be located north and south of the guardrail. There was discussion about materials in the budget and safety. Ms. Martin noted that the project will go to City Council for final approval. Ms. Shuff moved to approve the design as presented for Glenmoor Pond Ms. Bauer seconded Unanimously approved C) POUDRE RIVER PUBLIC LIBRARY MURAL DONATION DESIGN REVIEW Ms. Martin gave an overview of the project that she brought to Board earlier that is ready for next steps. The Poudre River Library District has selected artist Carla Gamboa and held community meetings to develop the design concept that Ms. Martin shared with the group. The mural features imagery that represents the Latinx community and the heart they bring to the community. There were concerns from the board about the large open areas in the background. Ms. Martin shared that the background can be activated with textures and doesn’t need to be filled with imagery. Ms. Chase asked about signage and if it will share the symbolism of the imagery. The donation was evaluated and received an average score of 25, 21 and over is accepted. Ms. Chase moved that we accept the joint library project. Ms. Bauer seconded Unanimously approved D) MIDYEAR REPORT Ms. Martin presented a draft based on the last mid-year report. Updates will be made to reflect project statuses after this meeting. Ms. Bauer shared how impressive the report is. Ms. Shuff agreed. Ms. Barnes moved to accept the Mid-Year report with additions from this meeting Ms. Shuff seconded Unanimously approved E) BOARD PERIODIC REVIEW QUESTIONAIRE DRAFT Ms. Martin presented the questionnaire with suggested updates from the last meeting. Ms. Barnes moved to the Board Periodic Review Questioner with modifications suggested Ms. chase seconded Unanimously approved 7. STAFF REPORT Ms. Martin shared highlights.
