CALL TO ORDER 3:33 pm 2. ROLL CALL • Board Members Present – Natalie Barnes, Kathy Bauer, Miriam Chase, Sabrina Davies, Gwen Hatchette, and Heidi Shuff • Board Members Absent – None • Staff Members Present – Ellen Martin, Liz Good, Nina Bodenhamer, Craig Kisling and Jen Torrey • Cultural Resources Board Liaison – Leslie Walker • Guests – Chelsea Ermer, Jennifer Ivanovic, Joshua Weiner, 3. AGENDA REVIEW 4. CITIZEN PARTICIPATION 5. APROVAL OF MINUTES – April 20, 2022 Ms. Chase moved to approve the Minutes Ms. Shuff seconded. Unanimously approved. Ms. Barnes not present. 6. BUSINESS, PRESENTATION, OR DISCUSSION: A) VETERANS PLAZA ART DONATION Nina Bodenhamer with City Give presented the donation. Diggs Brown would like to donate Author – My Hero, My Friend, which is currently placed in the Veterans Plaza at Spring Canyon Park temporarily. The Veterans Plaza would like to add it permanently as part of the City’s art collection. The statue by Susan Norris honors military service dogs and their relationship with service members. The sculpture is valued at $32,000 and it is proposed that it would be maintained and cleaned by the Veterans Plaza volunteers. The Board completed evaluations to see if the donation is accepted. The average score from the Board was 29.33, and a score of 21 and over is accepted. This donation will need to be approved by City Council. Ms. Shuff moved recommend the donation be accepted by Council. Ms. Barnes seconded Unanimously approved B) TRANSFORMER CABINET MURAL DESIGN REVIEW Ms. Martin presented designs from artists Chris Bates, Ren Burke, Chelsea Ermer, Chelsea Gilmore, Faith Johnson, Werner Schreiber, Larry Tucci and Kristen Vohs . There were questions about the painting schedules, the adaptation of submitted designs to the dimensions of the cabinets, and how murals fit into locations, especially when near other murals . Ms. Bauer moved to accept the designs as presented today Ms. Chase seconded Unanimously approved C) BUCKING HORSE PARK DESIGN REVIEW Ms. Martin gave an overview of the project. The artist was selected in a competitive process and worked with the project team. Craig Kisling and Jen Torrey with Park Planning & Development presented the park project, which will be renamed as it is developed. Jen shared the details of the neighborhood park design. Artist Josh Wiener shared images and an animation to give context to the artwork. The design incorporates three sculptural groupings placed in the native grass area along the Loop Walk near the entrances from Miles House Ave. The layers of twelve beams will align to form a solid wall as you enter the park and change as you move through the area. The sculptures will appear to emerge from the earth and create a gateway element for these entrances. This piece will need to be approved by City Council, so the board is making a recommendation to them. There were questions about skateboarding and climbing on the artwork. Ms. Barnes moved to recommend the project to City Council to approve. Ms. Chase seconded Unanimously approved D) BOARD PERIODIC REVIEW QUESTIONAIRE DRAFT Ms. Martin presented the questionnaire with an initial draft of general information and space for discussion of the Board specific questions. A draft with the Board additions will be sent to the group before the next meeting. E) PEDESTRIAN PAVER Ms. Martin presented one of the Pedestrian Paver designs that was shaded to show how the design would need to be altered for fabrication. The Board felt that the intention of the original drawing was lost with this modification and that we should move to the juried alternate paver design. Ms. Hatchette moved to go with an alternate due to shading and complexity of the originally accepted design Ms. Bauer seconded Unanimously approved 7. STAFF REPORT Ms. Martin shared highlights. OTHER BUISNESS Ms. Chase recommends A Walk in the Woods at Bas Blu theater and Rita Theatre’s Love at Any Age playing July 7–9. Lagoon Concerts start tonight. Ms. Good shared that Lincoln Center Art Gallery exhibit has a Closing Reception June 24, 5:00-6:30pm. The exhibit closes June 26. The Art Gallery is open 12-6 Wednesday and Friday. 9.
