City of Fort Collins Senior Advisory Board Minutes Wednesday June 8, 2022 at 11:30 a.m. In Person Meeting at Fort Collins Senior Center Fort Collins, Colorado Mission: The Senior Advisory Board shall serve in an advisory capacity to the Fort Collins City Council on programs and policies that help aging citizens live full and interesting lives and continue to contribute, participate, and share in the life of the community. I. Call to Order: 11:31am call to order II. Guest introductions: Loveland Mayor Jacki Marsh, FC Councilmembers Kelly Ohlson and Susan Gutowsky, Loveland SAB Vice Chair Tony J. Van Goor and SAB member JoAnn Herkenhoff, Recreation Director LeeAnn Williams, Records and Privacy Manager,Tammi Pusheck, and Chief Deputy City Clerk Rita Knoll III. Public Participation – Vicky Evans, John Styman, Kelly Kappus, Kay Marshall and LeeAnn Williams welcomed all to the Senior Center and stated that she looked forward to presenting to the FC SAB in August. IV. Administrative Items  Attendance: Alan Kress, Alicia Durand, Dave Kovach, Deanna O’Connell, Jeanne Hoag Mary Roberts and Myles Crane. Excused absence Nancy Luttropp. Also present Staff Betsy Esmond and Lisa Hays.  Approval of Minutes: Dave Kovach motioned, Alan Kress seconded, all approved  Correspondence - none  Calendar – reviewed for updates V. New Business: This in-person meeting was historic as it was the first time that two SABs from different municipalities met together to address common issues. Council Member Kelly Ohlson (former Mayor and Mayor Pro Tem), was the guest discussion leader and delivered highlights from his interesting teaching career and four decades of commendable civic service. Also, he clearly provided excellent context for the Boards’ discussions focusing on B&C issues which had been previously deliberated at FC Council’s Work Session on April 26, 2022. Topics included the value of board contributions assisting Council by providing residents’ governance as the eyes and ears of the community; streamlining more active board recruitment using avenues of communications in addition to the internet; seeking diversity of both people and ideas; term service parameters; on-boarding member expectations; training of board members and board elected leaders; interview timing; need for post interview candidate backup; various communication glitches; interpersonal and other skill sets needed by City B&C coordinators; necessity for boards to tell their story to the public and how they can impact our respective cities; retention issues; responsibility of boards as well as city personnel to continually improve processes. 2 The Board expressed appreciation to Mayor Marsh and the Loveland SAB members for their attendance and thoughtful contributions, as well as supportive comments from Tammi Pusheck and Rita Knoll from the City Clerk’s Office. The FC SAB was very grateful to both Councilmembers Ohlson and Gutowsky for assistance in making this joint municipal SAB meeting very productive. VI. Ongoing initiatives/Neighborhood Livability Affordable Housing Board – Mary PAFC Housing Priority Group – Alan/Nancy Health and Wellness – Deanna Access and Mobility – Alicia Senior Center Updates – Jeanne/betsy Member Bio - Nancy All the above was tabled to the next FC SAB meeting. VII. UPCOMING EVENTS and OTHER ANNOUNCEMENTS The Future of Aging in Colorado: hybrid Conference at Co. Springs June 16, 2022 9:00am - 4:00pm
