CALL TO ORDER a. The meeting was called to order at 5:46pm (pre-meeting presentation started at 5:46pm; regular meeting was conducted afterwards.) 2. ROLL CALL a. In attendance: Dylan Lindsay, Dimitry Volchansky, Rahul Goush, Riya Sajjan, Andrew Zuniga b. Absent: none 3. COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION a. None 4. APPROVAL OF MINUTES a. January 2022 meeting minutes were approved unanimously. 5. NEW BUSINESS a. Claudia Menendez (pre-meeting presentation): Claudia spoke about her new role as the City’s Chief Equity Officer in the City Manager’s Office. She presented information on the Equity Office webpage and the Equity Indicators Dashboard. She engaged board members in discussion around City Council priorities, advocacy efforts in the community, and opportunities for the Board to participate in job shadow programs in the Equity Office. b. Ted Hewitt, Assistant City Attorney: Ted spoke about his role in relation to YAB as a conduit for information to/from City Council; how to interpret and propose changes to City Code for structuring YAB term limits; how to provide feedback to Council through meeting attendance, letter writing, and inviting Councilmembers to YAB meetings; and how to build successful annual Work Plans. YOUTH ADVISORY BOARD REGULAR MEETING c. Emily Francis, Council Liaison/Mayor Pro Tem: Mayor Pro Tem Francis spoke about her role in relation to YAB and City Council and gave her support for YAB to increase engagement with Council, stating that the youth voice in the community is valued by Council and welcomed at Council meetings. • YAB Recruitment Strategies: YAB members are allowed to create their own method of recruitment strategies in their respective schools as community members who participate on the Board. Assistance from CMO or Staff Liaison is limited. Funding to do so would need to be reinstated, with a letter of intent written to Council. • Collaboration & Networking: YAB members are allowed to meet with other community youth groups as long as the meetings are posted to the public when 2 or more members will be in attendance. One way to engage with these groups would be to invite them to YAB meetings. • Training & Council Engagement: CA Hewitt, Mayor Pro Tem Francis, and Equity Officer Menendez were in support of an annual board member training in the fall for new members, and for a request to join a pre-meeting, informal dinner with Council to engage with Councilmembers and the judicial environment. 6. DISCUSSION ITEMS a. Finalize 2022 Work Plan – a motion was made and was passed to approve the 2022 Work Plan (attached). 7. BOARD MEMBER REPORTS (COMMITTEES, EVENT ATTENDANCE, ETC.) a. Larimer County Youth Coalition: a new mental health center is slated to be developed on S. Taft Hill Rd. The group is looking for more youth advocates. 8. OTHER BUSINESS a. Claudia Menendez: Board members are encouraged to attend March 1 Council meeting on Equity Indicators. 9. ADJOURNMENT a. The meeting was adjourned at 6:33pm .
