City of Fort Collins Senior Center
Consistent with our Mission, the Senior Advisory Board (SAB) assumed
responsibility to serve as advisors to City Council on programs and policies that
help older residents live full and interesting lives, continuing to contribute and
participate in our vibrant community. The Board is involved in a network of
various agencies and organizations for older adults so that we may remain
aware of issues, needs and occurrences that may be relevant to SAB’s work for
City Council.
Our primary focus was to provide education to our community about the aging process, to
advocate for a good quality of life and to encourage networking among the various groups
that deal with issues impacting older residents. The Board’s meeting plans continued to be
impacted in 2021 due to the pandemic.
Our focus throughout the year was to be informed, as well as to update Council and our city’s
seniors regarding issues pertaining to their health, well‐being, safety and neighborhood
livability.
In 2021 the Senior Advisory Board on balance achieved goals for our 2021 Work Plan as
indicated in the items and bulleted notes below with due consideration to the limitatons of
COVID‐19.
1. EDUCATION
In 2021 SAB hosted a record 22 speakers at its virtual meetings addressing:
o Perspectives by City Manager on organizational changes
o New member orientation by Senior Assistant City Attorney and City Clerk
o Consolidated Budget Plan and focus on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
o Reimagining Boards and Commissions – Council actions and B&C status
o Affordable Housing, Mobile Parks, and Missing Middle Homes
o Support by Council Liaison to address needs of older residents at Council Meetings.
o Proposed collaboration with PAFC on Building Codes Impact
o North Front Range Metropolotioan Planning Organization Initiatives
o Challenges at various assisted living facilities – discusison of pandemic’s impact
o CSU’s Center for Healthy Aging and related academic research on social isolation
o Review of State legislation impacting older adults
o FCPS Mental Health Response Team accomplishments and plans
o Governor’s Senior Policy Advisor on Aging Presentation to Mayor Arndt + 30 more
o City e‐bike programs – concerns and recommendations

2. OUTREACH
• Coordinated SAB work with a network of city, community, county and state
departments, agencies, and organizations’ boards, committees and so forth including
the following:
o Larimer County Office on Aging
o Colorado Center for Aging
o Colordo Commission on Aging
o Various assisted living faciilities encouraged to participate in SAB virtual meetings
