Accepted as written. APPROVAL OF MINUTES ● Motion to approve April 2021 minutes by Vic Smith; second by Jean Runyon. Approved 6-0. PUBLIC PARTICIPATION ● Cher Huesers attended the meeting to observe and to identify opportunities to promote diversity and inclusion within the community. BUDGET REVIEW ● None NEW BUSINESS • Mayor Pro-Tem Emily Gorgol - Discussion of City Council Priorities and HRC Alignment HUMAN RELATIONS COMMISSION REGULAR MEETING MINUTES - 05/13/2021 Page 2 of 3 o Emily will continue to be HRC’s Council Liaison. o Discussed ways to align the HRC’s work with the City’s priorities. The new City Council will identify these priorities within the next 30-60 days. o Some of these priorities may include increasing the minimum wage, health care equity, vaccine distribution, and aid for women who have been disproportionately affected by the lockdown and pandemic. o To further the HRC’s work, Emily suggested that we 1) reach out to other HRCs in similar sized cities to understand their focus and how to measure success; 2) reach out to other City Council members re: the role of the HRC is supporting equity and inclusion work; and 3) refining our HRC work plan to include measurable outcomes. • Kit Baker - Fundraising Manager, Colorado Indigenous Peoples Day o Discussed how HRC might be able to support the Colorado Indigenous Peoples Day - Resolution Acknowledgement. o “Walking towards Liberation” video viewed. Presented by the Lakota Tribe.. o Kit agreed to update the HRC at its June meeting re: progress with the City Council to pass a resolution and potential actions to advocate for its passage. • Amache Historic Designation Advocacy o The HRC sent letters to City Leaders and Congressman Joe Neguse supporting the Amache Historic Site designation. OLD BUSINESS Follow- up from April Meeting: A) Fort Collins Municipal Immigration legal defense fund – City Council to vote on proposal in June. B) HRC Letterhead/Signature Block – Carol to report back in June. Committee Reports: o Education Outreach – Update Re: TWP Training Sessions o Phil Walker proposed to have 2 sessions with possible follow up meetings. o The sub-group proposed adopting a new name, from “Transforming White Privilege” to “What about White Privilege?” in order to mitigate any divisive interpretation. o Sessions to be held in October. o Possible location of Front Range Community College. HUMAN RELATIONS COMMISSION REGULAR MEETING MINUTES - 05/13/2021 Page 3 of 3 o Send out Save the Dates in August. o Have pre study material for the recipients for the sessions. o Requested that a project budget be presented at the June HRC meeting. o Motion to purchase $75 TWP video proposed: First by Vic Smith, seconded by Phil Walker. All in favor: 6-0. o Media/Community Recognition Committee o Oscar agreed to assume the Committee Chair position. o Jean, Julia and Beth will work with Oscar to coordinate our 2021 HRC Awards ceremony. o Julia and Carol to update the 2020 Awards website. o Government Relations o Executive - HRC By-Laws Update o Beth and Carol to meet with Elizabeth Blythe to discuss By-Laws and new HRC member recruitment NEXT STEPS ● Meeting Action Items – Beth will send summary to the HRC. ● June 16th Agenda Ideas – Kathleen Mitchell, FRCC Law Enforcement Academy, Kit Baker ● Denise Apodaca announced that she is resigning from the HRC to attend a Fellowship Program at Columbia University. The HRC thanked Denise for her contributions and congratulated her on this exceptional opportunity. ADJOURNMENT ● Meeting adjourned at 7:20 pm.
