ROLL CALL Present: Eva Amason Jean Runyon Denise Apodaca Vic Smith Oscar Felix Wendy True Beth Jaeger Phil Walker Absent: Julia Mackewich Staff Present: Carol Thomas, Equal Opportunity & Compliance Manager, HRC Liaison Observers: None AGENDA REVIEW No additions. Accepted as written. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Motion to approve by Jean Runyon; second by Eva Amason. Approved 8-0. PUBLIC PARTICIPATION None BUDGET REVIEW Carol Thomas reported that $5900.00 has been allocated for the 2021 HRC budget. NEW BUSINESS New Members Vice Chair, Beth Jaeger, welcomed new HRC members Denise Apodaca and Oscar Felix. HRC members and Staff Liaison introduced themselves. OLD BUSINESS Discussion: 12/09/20 Human Relations Awards Ceremony. Eva Amason will contact the two award recipients who have not sent in their photos. HUMAN RELATIONS COMMISION REGULAR MEETING MINUTES - 01/14/2021 Page 2 of 2 Julia Mackewich will write a short narrative to accompany each of the recipient's photos to be posted on the HRC web site. Previous and Future HRC Seminars. Phil Walker summarized the previous HRC seminars on Cracking the Codes, reviewed the Transforming White Privilege materials and led a discussion about possible virtual, facilitator lead seminars re: white privilege and racism. Phil will present a proposal to the HRC for future seminars. Denise Apodaca suggested providing certificates to those who complete training sessions. Neighborhood / Book Groups Wendy True introduced the idea of developing an information packet that will promote and support book and/or neighborhood discussions groups re: white privilege. Wendy will write a proposal for the HRC. 2021 - 2022 HRC Work Plan Members discussed closely aligning the new Work Plan with the City Strategic Plan. Jean Runyon suggested using measurable goals and objectives to focus activities. Wendy True suggested the HRC address public health issues, provide information re: Covid vaccinations and advocate for people who are experiencing homelessness. Carol Thomas will send the updated City Strategic Plan to all HRC members. Plans for Annual HRC Retreat Carol will determine member availability and announce the retreat date. ADJOURNMENT Motion to adjourn by Jean Runyon; second by Phil Walker. Approved 8-0. Meeting adjourned at 7:30 pm.
