Minutes

Mission: The Senior Advisory Board shall serve in an advisory capacity y to the Fort Collins City
Council on programs and policies that help aging citizens live full and interesting lives and continue to
contribute, participate, and share in the life of the community.
I. Call to Order - 11:33 am
Guest introductions were made (see attendance below)
II. Administrative Items
a. Attendance: Excused: Sara Schilz
In attendance: Myles Crane, Suzanne King, David Kovach, Nancy Luttropp,
Deanna O’Connell, Jan Rossi, Gregg Wells and Sara Mendez (Staff Liaison)
Guests: Senator Joann Ginal, Amanda King, Royce Boehrs, Sharon Courtney,
Aaron Harris Jody Shadduck-McNally, Uday Vissa, and Vara Vissa,
b. Approval of July and August Minutes – unanimous
c. Correspondence – emailed City Council regarding approval of recent Council Work
Session discussion on matters relevant to SAB.
d. Public Participation: none
III. Today’s Speakers
Colorado Senator Joann Ginal addressed how older adults in the community are of top
concern. She shared experience with pandemic and her role in the Senate during this
unprecedented time. The Senator discussed several Bills in the General Assembly relevant
for older adults including Covid-related issues. She also mentioned that she will be working
on a Bill for non-emergency medical transportation.
Fort Collins Communications Director, Amanda King: Provided an overview of the City
Communications and Public Involvement function and public engagement strategy and
the impacts of Covid-19. She also discussed City’s efforts to connect with
older adults including the “adopt a neighbor” program.
IV. Ongoing initiatives
a. Council’s Six Month Planning Calendar - highlights for SAB were discussed.
b. Senior Center Update – Sara Mendez provided an update
c. Intergenerational Conversations SAB was debriefed on the 8/8/20 event
d. City Reassurance Initiatives – update on prior month’s presentation by Sue Schafer
e. COVID-19 Issues and Concerns: discussion

V. Neighborhood Livability – Community Outreach
Reorganization at Larimer County’s Office on Aging with Katie Stieber named Program
Manager. Various brief verbal reports presented.
VI. New Business
a. COVID-19 and Ageism – deferred to future meeting
b. Future speakers – discussed potential invitations
