o CALL TO ORDER
o Meeting was called to order by Chairperson Julia Mackewich at 5:00 pm
o ROLL CALL

o BUDGET REVIEW
o Per Carol Thomas, all Boards and Commissions’ budgets have been frozen
o Carol will update us on when City Council will meet to discuss re-funding Boards and Commissions for
the remainder of 2020.
o BUSINESS: Discussion regarding recommended action for Mayor and Council pertaining to racial equity
and justice.
o HRC wants to send letters to the Mayor, Chief of Police, City Manager commending them on the
stands they have taken regarding recent issues surrounding racial equity and justice

o In additions, HRC wants to include a request/offer to be involved in future initiatives surrounding these
topics.
o Adding a request for the Mayor to take the Your Brother’s Keeper pledge to work with the Police
Department and the Community to review and share pertinent data regarding police force policies.
o Motion was made by Cindy Davis to send a letter to City and Police leaders thanking them for their
stances, stating that the HRC is aligned with the Mayor’s Proclamation regarding Racial Equity and
Justice, recommending that the Mayor sign the My Brother’s Keeper Pledge and stating that HRC
wants to be a part of the City’s initiatives. Second by: Wendy True. Vote: 8-0
o Jean Runyon, Eva Amason and Beth Jaeger will compose the letter. Will then share it will all HRC
members for edits. Julia will send official copies to the Mayor, City Council, City Manager and Fort
Collins Police Chief
o A question was raised about the status of Principles of Community. Honore Depew will attend the
HRC July meeting to provide updates
o A question was raised about the display of the Confederate Flag. This also tied in to the Principles of
Community as Freedom of Speech is a factor.
o HRC Awards were placed on the July agenda. The application will be updated online but until budget
questions are answered, plans for the 2020 Awards will remain fluid.
o City Council will be making a decision on Boards and Commissions meetings. At this point, with City
Council approval, we are planning to meet on July 9, 2020 either in person or via Zoom
o ADJOURNMENT
o Motion to adjourn was made by Vic Smith. Second by Wendy True. Vote to approve:
8-0. Meeting was adjourned at 5:43 pm
