WOMEN’S COMMISSION
REGULAR MEETING
February 20th, 2019 | 6 – 8 p.m.
117 N. Mason Street | Civic Center Conference Room
1. CALL TO ORDER
a. Hannah called the meeting to order at 6:03 pm
2. ROLL CALL
a. Hannah Little, Melanie Potyondy, Shana Ryken, Lexie Kuznick, Shannon Hein
(staff liaison), Kurt (guest), Lyssa de la Torre, Erma Woodfin, Nadine Nehme?
3. AGENDA REVIEW
a. Christine will be at the March meeting to take photographs of members for MAX
badges/passes.
4. CITIZEN PARTICIPATION
a. VP of Human Relations Commission – Colleen Conway
▪ Last year Women’s Commission combined recognition and Marcile N. Wood
Award in one event. The next awards event is in December, but HR
Commission would like to get a head start in co-planning.
▪ Women’s Commission will discuss the schedule for the year at the February
23 retreat
▪ “Cracking the Code” is a film about institutionalized racism that HR
Commission shares as an educational tool and could be a collaborative
project to promote
▪ HR Commission’s next meeting is 5:30 Thursday, Feb 28 at 300 West
Laporte and it would be great if a Women’s Commission member could
attend
5. PRESENTATION: BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS PILOT PROJECT
a. Triple Bottom Line - City of Fort Collins Utilities
▪ Staff use an internal document to do Triple Bottom Line "scans" to
determine impacts of city programs and projects.
• Internal tool
• One page with 10 questions
• Uncovers trade-offs to promote transparency and
operationalizes City's commitment to sustainability
• Helps City Council have a one-pager to help them make decisions
based on whether the potential impact will be
positive/negative/neutral and have a direct or indirect impact on the
community
• Kurt showed an example of a Scan Summary provided to Council
on the "Pilot Program Allowing E-Bikes on Paved Trails"
• Scan provides an innovative approach to ensuring sustainability of
programs.
6. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
a. January minutes unanimously approved as written.
7. UNFINISHED BUSINESS
a. Discussion of community partners for Women’s History Month Proclamation
▪ Kori will reach out to Leslie Struc at FCMOD to join
▪ Hannah will reach out to Patty with Zonta to join
▪ Kori will update proclamation and send to Shannon by 2/22
▪ Proclamation March 5 – Kori will greet and organize guests
b. Annual Retreat
▪ Annual retreat agenda was reviewed
▪ Outreach and education about the work of the commission will be discussed
to enhance awareness and visibility
▪ Discussion of budget and potential request for increased funding
8. NEW BUSINESS
a. Proclamation schedule updated on drive
b. March meeting presentation
▪ Kori will provide an update on HB 1032 – sexuality education bill
(postponed)
▪ Lexie works at a state level with Human Services and will provide an
update on relevant issues
9. BOARD MEMBER REPORTS
a. Proclamations and City Council attendance
b. Community events
▪ WomenGive Luncheon
c. CEDAW
▪ Shana and Lexie drafted a memo that is in near final form
▪ Committee members will review memo
▪ Will discuss at retreat – do new members want to join committee?
