Mason 2018 ANNUAL REPORT Page 1 The City of Fort Collins Parks and Recreation Advisory Board held 10 regular meetings in 2018 at various park and recreational facilities throughout the City. The 2018 Board Members were Ragan Adams, Rob Cagen, Mary Carlson, Bruce Henderson, Kenneth Layton (resigned in April and replaced by Robert Kingsbury), Jessica MacMillan, Scott Sinn (resigned in May and replaced by Sam Houghteling), Kelly Smith and Catherine Carabetta. The Board elects its officers annually in February, and Scott Sinn was elected as Board Chair with Rob Cagen as Board Vice-Chair and Kelly Smith as Secretary. Due to Scott Sinn’s resignation, Board elections were held again in July with Rob Cagen elected as Chair and Catherine Carabetta as Vice-Chair. Ken Summers served as City Council Liaison to the Board. Kurt Friesen, Park Planning & Development Director; Mike Calhoon Director of Parks; and Bob Adams, Recreation Director, served as Staff Liaisons to the Board, with Coleen Elliott, CSR II Technical Specialist, providing staff support. 1. PARKS • Actively supported funding for lifecycle offers in the budget process. • The Board provided feedback on the Parks Refresh strategy in January, May and August. • The Board received monthly updates on park development projects and the Whitewater Park was reviewed in February. • The Board provided feedback on allowing Model Rocketry in the Parks system. 2. RECREATION • Provided updates and received feedback from the Board pertaining to items listed on the Recreation Strategic Plan i.e. Reduced Rate Program, marketing efforts, PSD partnerships and safety improvements. • The Board was updated on efforts to increase community relations and marketing along with updates on the mass registrations for the year. • Provided feedback on the Roller Derby facility request. • Reviewed the new rental fee methodology and provided feedback. 3. TRAILS • Reviewed the E-Bike proposal from FC Moves in December and provided feedback. • Supported Trails offers for both construction and maintenance in the budget process. 4. COMMUNICATION/COLLABORATION • The Board provided informative articles in the Recreator for each publication in 2018. PARKS & RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD 2018 Annual Report 2018 ANNUAL REPORT Page 2 • Ensure Board engages in regular communication with Council Liaison. • Reviewed the six-month planning calendar at each meeting related to Parks & Recreation. • The Board provided a position letter to Council on the budgeting priorities. • The Board provided feedback on the expiring KFCG tax.
