Senior Advisory Board
MINUTES
Wednesday, February 14, 2018 11:30 a.m.
Fort Collins Senior Center
1200 Raintree Drive

Mission: The Senior Advisory Board shall serve in an advisory capacity y to the Fort Collins City
Council on programs and policies that help aging citizens live full and interesting lives and continue to
contribute, participate, and share in the life of the community.
NOTE: Light lunch will be provided.
Board Members Present: Dhara Rose, Wendy True, Sue Dalton, Sarah Schilz, Suzanne King, Jason
Brabson, Janet Sanders

Current member PAFC, multiple sub groups. Handout and information on “Ranch Plans are
Not Enough”, thinking beyond Aging in Place, Aging in Community
12:15 pm Luke Caldwell Electric Assist Bicycles 10 minutes

VI. Ongoing projects
a. March 21, via van or carpool, and attend lunch with select legislators; RSVPs turned in to
Office on Aging; done
b. Speaker suggestions and discussion
i. Laurie Stolen, Behavioral Health Project Manager – working with FC and Loveland City
Councils and City Management; representing County Commissioners' initiative re building of
Mental Health and Substance Abuse Facility
ii. Lynette McGowan - Larimer County Office on Aging - LCOA presents classes on Powerful
Tools for Caregivers and provides invaluable assistance to caregivers. Lynette is close friend
of Greg's wife Leslie (thank you Greg).
iii. Melody Bettenhausen - Program Director of Ensight Skills Melody knows Alan Beatty and
she would be willing to share with us the various programs and resources provided to seniors
with low and/or no vision.
iv. Suggest: SAB should discuss, approve potential dates and send out invitations to these and/or
other speakers. Myles would be pleased to help.

vi. March ideas APS Larimer County, Emily or Lori; PAFC – “A Little Help”;
Dementia Friendly and longer list created

VII. Updates
a. Senior Transportation Coalition - Jason Brabson; Katy Mason updated on Larimer
County plan, interviewing transportation options, create umbrella center; travel training
via Transfort
b. City of Fort Collins Affordable Housing, 1st Thursday, 4 pm; Greg Wells
c. City of Fort Collins Transportation, 3rd Wednesday, 6 pm, 215 N. Mason community
room - Jason Brabson -- did not attend; but is in communication with City staff and
others, may form small, unofficial networking group
d. PAFC steering committee: Myles Crane – Jim Becker in his 3rd week as Exec Dir applying
for various grants for the senior community.
e. PAFC – Housing, Nancy Luttropp- funding issues, planning issues, suggestion speaker
on “metro districts”
f. PAFC culture of aging committee-
g. PAFC health and wellness committee-Myles – 1) Nine ambassadors were selected for Senior
Access Points. Training is scheduled for Feb 16. 2) New self-directed volunteer team meeting on
2/27 to discuss short term project re. mental health for older adults. 3) Aspen Club now offering new
complimentary(?) 2-hour program on QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) for Suicide Prevention.

a. 2018 Dates requested at SAB Jan meeting for SUMMITSTONE’s free Mental Health First Aid 8-hour
