Women's Commission Meeting Minutes
April 19, 2017

Meeting Minutes
The City of Fort Collins Women's Commission promotes decisions and actions that address the
needs and positively impact women in our community. We do this by listening to the voice of
women, advising city council, promoting community events, and educating ourselves and others
about safety, health and poverty as they relate to the City of Fort Collins seven Key Strategic
Outcomes.
Attendees: Ginny Carroll, Huston Morse, Hailey Atkinson, Stacia Ryder, Kori Wilford, Dru Van
Doren, Hannah Little
Absent: Liz Donovan, Molly Alderton
Staff Liaison: Suzanne Jarboe-Simpson
Guests: Kylie & Casandra Holub, Carol Coffey, Tess Buchannan
I. Call to Order-Carroll called meeting to order at 6:04 pm
II. Approve minutes - Regular meeting, March 22, 2017 -Wilford moves to approve, Ryder
seconds.
Ill. New Business
a. Adei:it ameAEled bylaws
b. Collaboration breakfast planning- May 9-want to discuss survey results from other
boards and commissions.
c. Plans for Women's Health Week (May) -Wilford going to type up a blurb for volunteers
to speak about during public comment in May.
IV. 6:30 pm - Panel (Stacia moderating for 45-60 minutes and 15-20 minutes for questions, follow
up, etc.)
a. What are the biggest issues you see in this community? -
i. Lack of visibility, sexual education is heterosexual, history does not consider
homosexual histories. With lack of visibility, comes lack of resources, and lack of
safe spaces. Not even every school has GSA's (Gay-Straight Alliance).
ii. Education in the workplace - talking about it, training with terminology, legal
restrictions, keeping lines of communication open
iii. Concerns about the Youth in the community, to have safe spaces. You can
legislate tolerance, but not acceptance. It's all about education and correcting
to create environments that are accepting.
b. What iv. can Biggest the WC need do for centers these around needs? Youth, and 4 'I Trans community for some individuals.

V. Ongoing Business (to be discussed at the May meeting)
a. WFCO Event - Program and thank you
b. Volunteering at the Food Bank - thanks, Liz!
c. Victim advocates & It's On Us-
i. Atkinson will invite Katie Abeyta from SAVA to attend May meeting to provide
an update on the 2017 It's On Us campaign as well as a general SAVE update.
ii. Ryder to discuss with Lea Hanson about aeproaching Councilmember Stevens to
be an It's On Us Champion. i-. •
iii. Atkinson followed up with DA's office to gain a better understanding of current
, programs in place to educate and train DA's on victim advocacy.
d. Women in Politics subcommittee & CAWP http://www.cawp.rutgers.edu/- Huston, Dru,
Liz, Hailey- No current update.
e. SANE -Alderton touched base with Elyse about status of donations
f.
i. Is the WC able to ask City to use current social media outlets to promote
donations for SANE.
