1. Introductions
2. Approval of Minutes: The minutes were reviewed and Hettie Hueber moved to accept
them as written. Michelle Miller seconded. The minutes were approved.
3. New Business:
Transportation Survey Meeting: Transportation was very receptive to the information
gathered from the community. There is a real possibility that Sunday service will happen
and we are on track to update 30-40 bus stops annually (depending on needed alterations
and cost). The survey information will help in setting priorities and has been shared with
the Budgeting for Outcomes team. Terry noted that the Commission should keep pushing,
keep talking about transportation issues. In particular, he recommended that we request
periodic updates on sidewalk repair/updates and bus stops.
4. Old Business:
Snow Removal: The Commission discussed snow removal and determined that it would be
good to get clarification of what the ADA requires. We will invite Delynn Coldiron to attend
a future meeting and will check in with Larry Schneider as well.
Homeless Coalition: John Morris has made attempts to reach out to the mission to better
understand their rules around admission, work requirements, and clients with disabilities.
In addition, Maureen contacted Ginny Sawyer who reported that from October-January, the
shelter reported being full on (5) nights. During that time, there were no tickets issued for
camping without a permit. She was unsure about citations possible issued by park rangers.
In 2015, 177 tickets were issued for camping without a permit and 529 were issued for
trespassing.
5. Open Discussion:
Terry mentioned that construction often impacts accessibility. For example, at Laurel and
College, workers are placing caution signs in the curb cut-outs and at Panera and equipment
was blocking curb cut-out access. This led to a general discussion on creating a more
accessible community. How to log ADA problems/questions for better follow-up, and how
to focus on budget issues that involve ADA regulations were also mentioned. Accessible
parking in Old Town and how the number/placement of spots is determined was also a
topic of concern. Looking at other city’s accessibility initiatives was suggested.
6. City Staff Liaison:
It was formally announced that Ethan and Dawn will be exiting as City Staff liaison/support.
Maureen McCarthy is the Commission’s new City Staff liaison and she introduced her
assistant, Ali Recio, who will be providing additional support.
With no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 1:55pm.
