Meeting Minutes
Location: CIC Room, City Hall West, 300 Laporte Avenue, Fort Collins, CO, 80521
Council Liaison: Council Member Bob Overbeck
Staff Liaison: Equal Opportunity and Compliance Officer, Carol Thomas
Recorder: Jayne A. Smith
Present: Colleen Conway, Cynthia Davis, Jessica Gengler, Julia Mackewich, Jean Runyon and Hillel Katzir.
Absent: Kimberly Allison, Susan Mathre and Victor Smith
Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 5:32 p.m. by Julia Mackewich, Chair.
Agenda Review: The meeting agenda was motioned and approved 6-0.
Approval of Minutes: The May meeting minutes were motioned and approved 6-0.
Public Input: There was no public input.
Guest Speaker:
• Mary Ontiveros, Vice President for Diversity, Colorado State University addresses the HRC on the
importance of diversity, especially at the college level of learning. Also, specifically the role social
media plays in the response time from those in authority at Colorado State University must be swift
and united.
• CSU's incident response team and strategies for addressing critical incidents that may occur on the
campus or in the community. As a council, we wanted to know if a similar response team (or protocol)
was in place at the city level--or if this is something the city could consider.
Discussion Topics:
• The Budget review was given by Cynthia Davis.
• Hillel Katzir addressed the commission with an EOC update on the follow up meeting held. A
committee meeting is scheduled to be held Thursday, July 5, 2018 to further discuss
involvement and support by the HRC. Carol Thomas to reserve a room for this meeting.
• Colleen Conway provided an HRC Reunion update. Roundtable discussion on organization
and items needed to date, including a press release. 2018 marks the 50th year anniversary
of the HRC.
• Planning early for the 2019 Retreat is essential; Cynthia Davis recommends this be added to
forthcoming agenda items in 2018.
• A report on the recent KRFC Community Radio interview with Julia Mackewich, HRC Chair
is given by Hillel Katzir.
Closing: A motion to adjourn was approved 6-0 at 7:22 p.m.
The Next HRC meeting will be held Thursday, July 12, 2018, at 5:30 p.m.
