HomeMy WebLinkAboutCommission On Disability - Minutes - 09/08/2016COMMISSION ON DISABILITY Fort Collins City Hall: Council Information Center 12:15 p.m. Thursday, September 8th, 2016 Present: Marilee Boylan, Terry Schlicting, Leslie Efird, Miller, John Morris, Sherri Reichow Absent: Michael Devereaux, Michelle Miller, Hettie Hueber, and Michael Marr City: Ethan Cossens, Dawn Nelson, Steve Lukowski, LeaAnn Haisch, Kurt Frisen, Craig Kisling. Guests: Misty Guregroy, Arianna Kilmer, Becca Heinze, Evan Kuruffer Call to Order: 12:20 p.m. 1. Introductions 2. Approval of Minutes: August-Minutes passed as amended, Boyan moved to approve Efird seconded. 3. Open Discussion: a. Schlicting passed a letter that will be sent to Fort Collins City Council Members. The letter states the COD would like to offer our input and support for updating bus stops and sidewalks, also supporting the funding of Sunday bus service. The commission approved the letter. b. Schlicting told of his New West Fest experience. After hearing his experience at the Fest all of the commission members feel that more training needs to be done by the security company that is being used for City events. Also more thought and plans need to be put in place for this festival. The COD will contact the city Special Events coordinator. 4. New Business: a. Frisen and Kisling gave a park presentation on the new SE Community Park. The COD gave input, suggesting raised garden beds, family asset bathrooms, adult changing tables and a ramp in to the stream. The parks team was very receptive to the ideas given and will look for grants to make the park more ADA assessable. b. Heinze the Therapeutic Recreation Supervisor listened to the ideas given by the COD and Guregroy on adding adult sized changing tables to some of the restrooms in Parks and Recreation facilities. This started the conversation on getting the funds and where the money would come from and how much funding is available. Heinze said she would take the information back to the endowment committee. The adult changing tables would be the priority. 5. Old Business: a. Mayor’s Luncheon- Reminder was giving for the subcommittee meeting that will be held on September 22nd at 12:15 in the Council Information Center. b. Boylan gave information on the up coming City Council meeting on October 4th 2016 at 5:30. It would be nice to have COD members at the meeting to give our support for funding to provide bus service on Sundays. 6. Community News and Updates: a. No community news or updates Schlicting moved to adjourn. Reichow seconded. Meeting adjourned at 1:45 pm. Submitted by Leslie Efird
