HomeMy WebLinkAboutHuman Relations Commission - Minutes - 01/11/2018City of Fort Collins Human Relations Commission (HRC) January 11, 2018 5:30 p.m. Meeting Minutes Location: CIC Room, City Hall West, Fort Collins, Colorado 80521 Council Liaison: Council Member Bob Overbeck Staff Liaison: Equal Opportunity and Compliance Officer, Carol Thomas Recorder: Jayne A. Smith Present: Kimberly Allison, Colleen Conway, Cynthia Davis, Jessica Gengler, Hillel Katzir, Julia Mackewich, Susan Mathre, Jean Runyon and Victor Smith, Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 5:31 p.m. by Victor Smith, Chair. Agenda Review: The meeting agenda was motioned and approved 9-0. Approval of Minutes: The November meeting minutes were motioned and approved 9-0. Public Input: • Dale Adamy, representing Fort Collins Parity (FCP) R1st.org. Mr. Adamy spoke about homelessness within Fort Collins. His concerns were directed at the City’s long term affordable housing program tool with a request that a Sustainability Assessment Tool (SAT) be incorporated into the City Plan. • Myles Crane as Vice Chair of the Senior Advisory Board complimented the production of FoCo Speaks Out! and would like his board to be considered to participate in next year’s production. Mr. Crane listed several programs designed specifically to benefit seniors. Bob Overbeck took a moment to welcome the new HRC members. Guest Presentations: • Joseph Somodi recapped the FoCo Speaks Out! event with a power point presentation. The event was successful with an overflow of patrons to the outside main area. A film of the event will be forthcoming. Discussion Topics: • New and returning HRC Members introduced themselves. • Christine Macrina, Board and Commissions Coordinator, outlined the objectives of the HRC while providing tools to better understand and reach HRC goals. The HRC was presented with the Boards and Commissions Training Manual. • Jenny Lopez-Filkins, Senior Assistant City Attorney, expanded upon her role as the legal liaison for the HRC. • Kimberly Allison presented the framework for the forthcoming event ‘Cracking the Codes: The System of Racial Inequity’ to be held January 22, 2018, at the Downtown Poudre Library. o Motion to approve a food allocation of $325 maximum was motioned and approved 9-0. • Colleen Conway summarized the rough draft for an HRC reunion. • Scheduling details for the HRC Retreat were discussed. • Kimberly Allison requested that the budget be included in the monthly meetings for guidance. Carol Thomas will provide the monthly budget for reference. Closing: A motion to adjourn was approved 9-0 at 7:31 p.m. The Next HRC meeting will be Thursday, February 8, 2018, at 5:30 p.m. in the CIC Room, City Hall West.
