who Myles Crane is in the previous minutes. Devereaux moved, Miller
seconded to approve minutes. Minutes approved.
3. Open Discussion General Public: Miller will share Larimer County Mobility
Council updates as they occur.
Myles Crane of the Human Relations Commission shared five topics.
Mental health forum 7.25.13 and 7.29.13 to address education about
mental health issues. This will be offered later this year.
CSU—event via the Center for Public Deliberation. Mental health‐‐
focus on youth.
Elder Abuse Forum—Safe and effective transportation is an outcome
of last year’s forum. A law was passed in May regarding the reporting
elder abuse.
Summit on Aging—This will take place in fall of 2014. This will be
either a one or two day conference. COD is interested in participating.
COD could participate.
Awards Ceremonies. Crane expressed that there needs to be a
representative to each COD meeting from the HR commission. He
asked us to consider inviting two people from the HR commission to
the Mayor’s Awards this year. Coon pointed out the link to the video
of the Mayor’s Awards on the City website. COD will invite members
of the HR commission. Crane suggested combining the awards
ceremonies. Coon stated the COD voted 7‐0 to retain an independent
awards ceremony.
4. New Business
a. Trail Study Status Report—Craig Forman, City of Fort Collins.
Please refer to trail study submitted to the committee prior to the
meeting. Foreman is asking for an expression of support for the trail
study from the COD. Discussion could take place at the August
meeting and then we could get back to the City. Add Foreman to
August agenda.
b. Disability Pride Fest—David King, Disabled Resource Services (DRS)
presented. The Parade is on September 7th. DRS would like to partner
with the COD. They would provide leadership and the COD would
participate. Discussion of the parade. Luna expressed interest on
behalf of the Elderhaus. The Disability Pride Fest could be an annual
event that the COD participates in. The COD can discuss via email to
decide what we can do and how to participate and get back to David
King. daking@viawest.net is David King’s contact. Coon could
possibly have five minutes during the speaker time to thank past
Mayor’s Awards winners. Schlicting offered some volunteers. King
could contact PSD for volunteers, too.
Coon will forward Emma McArdle’s information to DRS.
COD can walk in the parade
Coon can speak to highlight the Mayor’s Awards winners
Luna will distribute flyers. Robinson will also distribute via ARC
Coon will send email for manning a COD booth
COD will send an email to Mayor’s Award winners to let them
know we are giving them a shout out at the event
c. Make a Difference Day: United Way of Larimer sponsors this during
a week in October. Should the COD sponsor an event that we need
volunteers for? We would be more likely to get together and volunteer
for an event.
d. Expiring COD Terms: Coon’s, Huber’s, and Schlicting’s terms are
expiring. Coon and Huber can reapply but Schlicting is term limited.
Discussed idea that a current Commission member should be on the
selection committee for new Commission members. Coon will contact
Councilmember Overbeck with this sentiment.
5. Old Business
a. Caterer—for the Mayor’s Awards. Robinson said she would contact
Truman to see if he would cater the event. October 17th is the Awards
ceremony. Letter via Huber distributed to Commission members to
pass out regarding the Mayor’s Awards nominations. Each
Commission member should send out at least five letters. Coon will
email Huber to see if we need to meet before our next meeting.
Mayor’s Awards subcommittee meeting in two weeks’ time here in the
office on the second Thursday is August 8th.
b. Coon spoke to a representative from Accessible Space, Inc. (ASI).
They are thinking about building 40 accessible units on Riverside near
Albertson’s. Accessible/Affordable housing will be on the agenda for
next month.
c. Hearing loop demonstration at Lincoln Center. Cozzens is working
on it with the City to make sure everything is in place before we have
an open house. Luna and Miller are tentatively interested in helping
to organize the open house some time in 2014.
d. Update from Luna: August 9th fundraiser for Elderhaus.
e. Week of Hope—Luna can ask Lisa Kramer to attend if we’d like.
f. Robinson—new building for ARC in the former DMV building on
Prospect. Open House on Thursday August 29th. There will be a
community room to use for meetings at no charge for public events.
Robinson will make sure the COD is invited.
g. Coon mentioned the Service League raised a lot of money for Foothills
Gateway.
Motion to adjourn by Miller. Luna seconded.
Meeting adjourned at 2:00 pm
