In 2013, the City of Fort Collins Natural Resources Advisory Board (NRAB) held 11 regular meetings
during which 40 agenda items were considered, 10 actions were taken and 7 related memoranda or reports
were sent to the City Council. In addition, one joint meeting with the NRAB and the Water Board was held.
Joseph Piesman and Harry Edwards were elected chair and vice-chair respectively. One member of the
NRAB served as a representative on the Bicycle Advisory subcommittee of the Transportation Board; an
NRAB representative served on West Nile Virus Advisory Panel. The NRAB Chair attended a special
Update on the Foothills Mall Development. The NRAB Chair and Vice-Chair attended a “5-Board Group”
series of meetings related to updating the City Greenhouse Gas Reduction Goals and Energy Plan. An NRAB
member also attended a strategic planning meeting related to the future of Fort Collins. Moreover, an NRAB
member attended various events, meetings, and workshops as part of the Road to Zero Waste “Working
Group”.
The Table below lists the agenda items considered and the actions taken by the NRAB during 2013. The
actions taken include Memos related to: Cardboard Recycling, Urban Agriculture, Energy Star Requirements
for URA Projects, Recreational Trail Master Plan, Trail System Capital Expansion Fee, International
Building Code, Nature in the City, and the Road to Zero Waste. The Road to Zero Waste was a major
emphasis of the NRAB in 2013, as was the joint meeting with the Water Board which included several topics
on the ecological health of the Poudre River.
The NRAB had a productive year and we look forward to another year of service on behalf of the people of
Fort Collins, as well as the environment and natural resources of Fort Collins.
