Mason Avenue; Room 1-B Enter through WEST doors The City of Fort Collins Women’s Commission promotes decisions and actions that address the needs and positively impact women in our community. We do this by listening to the voice of women, advising City Council, promoting community events, and educating ourselves and others about safety, health and poverty. Attendees: Lea Hanson, Jan Hawn, Deborah Young, Ginny Carroll Staff Liaison: Suzanne iarboe-Simpson Absent: Catherine Douras, Su ette Greany, Merry Hummell, Marija Weeden-Osborn, Annette Zacharias Chair Hanson called the meeting to order at 6:34pm. Guests: Jerry Schiager, Police Captain, Fort Collins Police Services Keith Maynard, Crimes Against Persons Detective • Stranger crimes are rare, most perpetrators are known to the victim • Discussed perception versus reality regarding crime in the community • Reporting is important for the Police • Violence against women? Different ages of women? • An educational project for the Women’s Commission could be the buddy system • Colorado State has an escort program on campus, Ramride, Police partnership with ASCSU with buses from downtown, taxis • Best advice, be alert, know your surroundings • 16% of the police are women (of about 200) • Another possible project - recruit women police • Budget requests are around prevention and safety • Internet safety — police are teaching classes for the community and in the schools • Next steps — keep communication lines open, the Police want to know about issues in the community. They will talk to people about topics, too. U (i5 Approval of the September minutes will be in November because there was no quorum New Business 1. Feedback for City’s legislative priorities for 2014 and Legislative Policy Agenda — members will look over the attachments in the email that Hanson forwarded on Oct. 10. 2. Health District of Northern Larimer County health issues discussion — Oct. 29, 6:00 pm. • Hawn will attend 3. 2014 Work Plan — Carroll will draft and send to WC for approval at November meeting 4. City Council Retreat — Nov. 7 Ongoing Business 1. Discussion/Debrief for 10/16 showing of The Cliff Effect a. Hawn commented that Larimer County is underfunded for the need b. The panel discussion presented a model that an employer is using to address the issue and retain employees 2. The WC will support for the GAP analysis project on human service and community development need/issues. Hanson will email about this. 3.
