Transportation Board
2014 WORK PLAN
The goal of the Transportation Board is to promote the implementation of a balanced transportation
system that is consistent with the City sustainability goals and provides choice, mobility, access,
congestion mitigation and safety for all people while achieving:
1) Efficient and Effective movement of people and goods throughout the community;
2) A reduction in the rate of Vehicle Miles Traveled growth to equal the rate of population
growth; and
3) Enhanced mobility through emphasis of modal shifts.
I. Advise City Council on transportation & mobility issues, planning, and construction projects with
timely responses to City initiatives, and by proactively raising new concerns and recommended
solutions
II. Support the Bicycle Advisory Committee’s efforts to promote bicycling in the city through
infrastructure, programs, education, and, above all, safety improvements by both cyclists and
motorists
III. Explore financing options to address transportation needs, including, but not limited to, dedicated
funding mechanisms
IV. Proactively reach out to the community and other boards to both solicit input and provide
information on transportation issues
V. Promote transportation safety as it affects all modes of transportation, via consideration of
engineering, education and enforcement
VI. Establish communication links with other transportation bodies in the city and region
VII. Promote transit and local multi-modal programs as a viable option to encourage sustainable,
equitable and healthy lifestyle.
VIII. Review Emergency Preparedness, Response, and Mitigation planning for the City’s transportation
system.
IX. Explore the impact and interaction of transportation on the sustainability, economic health, and
well-being of Fort Collins residents, as relating to the report: The Struggle of Moderate-Income
Households to Afford the Rising Costs of Housing and Transportation available from the
Transportation Research Board, November 2012.
