HomeMy WebLinkAbout2015 - Senior Advisory Board - Annual ReportFort Collins Senior Advisory Board 2015 Annual Report MISSION STATEMENT The Senior Advisory Board shall serve in an advisory capacity to the Fort Collins City Council on programs and policies that help aging citizens live full and interesting lives and continue to contribute, participate, and share in the life of the community. EDUCATION The Senior Advisory Board invites speakers to our monthly meetings to keep current on issues of interest to seniors. This year’s program was ALIVE INSIDE, a stirring and uplifting documentary that portrays music’s capacity to reawaken our souls and uncover the deepest parts of our humanity. Most comments from the attendees were very positive in all categories. The Board had been involved in the following: Partnership for Age Friendly Communities Following a very successful Summit on Aging in May, the PAFC decided to apply for membership in AARP’s Network of Age-Friendly Communities SAB members served on the steering committee and the two of the four task groups/teams as follows: Mobility, Health and Wellness. . Senior Transportation Coalition The group continued working on Travel Training for Seniors. Fort Collins, Loveland, and Berthoud have all offered travel training this year and expect to do more in the future. The STC decided that they will consider studying transportation for rural seniors as their next project. Liaisons with Other Senior Groups SAB members continued communication with an identified network of groups and organizations that have some impact on aging. ADVOCACY Senior Center Re-Accreditation Diane Smith served as the chair of the Purpose and Planning Subcommittee. Patricia Housely served on the Governance Subcommittee.
