4. New Business:
a. Travel training program—Andrea Liebl travel training coordinator.
MAX starts on May 10th. Launch party takes place that day.
Ambassador program was designed to help with this launch and other
events. Ambassadors help people learn how to ride MAX. Looking for
volunteers who can commit to at least10 hours of service to help
people navigate new routes, new schedules and the MAX. One more
training day is April 10th for new Ambassadors. Training is April 10,
from 3:30‐5:00 at 215 N. Mason.
b. World Class Accessible Community Discussion—Dan Weinheimer
Transportation, accessible housing clearing house (one stop shop for
people with disabilities who are looking for housing), hearing loops,
sidewalk survey priority areas to receive funding, central disabilities
services coordinator, jobs, more accessibility for older businesses.
Housing, transportation and jobs are probably the three biggest
issues. For employment, we aren’t aware of a job clearing house that
could point people with disabilities to available jobs in the
community. Think about design for “visitability” and also for Universal
Design. Hearing loops expansion is another idea. Currently looped:
four rooms at the Lincoln Center, Museum in the dome, Police
Services, Senior Center, Aztlan, Council Chambers. Suggestion: 100%
accessibility at all City events. Technology can help open meetings
with listening, viewing and having input. Could Transport partner
with another entity to help bring all stops up to ADA code? What
about a call‐in number to report stops that are blocked with snow?
5. Old Business
a. Person First Festival‐David King. The event in September would be a
good place to publicize different COD initiatives. We could have a
hearing loop “tent” to demonstrate the loops. A website will launch on
April 22 for the Person First festival. The COD will share the stage
with a Denver group called “Family” of singers and stand up
comedians. September 13 from 10‐2. Parade starts at 10:30. COD
will try to get Mayor’s award winners at the Festival.
b. Affordable/Accessible Housing—Jeff Coon. Encouraging the City to do
a study to identify available units and population in need.
6. Community News and Updates
Devereaux updated the Commission on affordable housing event sponsored
by the Coloradoan.
7. Adjourn
Meeting adjourned at 1:53. Hueber move to adjourn. Coon seconded.
