CULTURAL RESOURCES BOARD
WORK PLAN – 2015
VISION: The Fort Collins Cultural Resources Board envisions a community where art, music,
performances and the stories of its people enhance the quality of life for all residents and
visitors.
MISSION: The mission of the Fort Collins Cultural Resources Board is to advise City Council on cultural
issues for the greater good of the Fort Collins community. Cultural resources are defined as
intellectual and artistic achievements or expressions, including customs and civilizations of a
particular time or people, all of which stimulate community potential and pride.
OVERARCHING GOAL (OAG)
The Cultural Resources Board will help make Fort Collins a cultural center and destination.
STRATEGIES TO ACHIEVE THE OVERARCHING GOAL
1. Leverage available resources to the Board in forwarding the OAG.
Ensure Fort Fund dollars support the overarching goal of “making Fort Collins a cultural center and
destination,” encourage increased participation in arts and culture, and have a positive impact on the
local economy.
Administer Fort Fund.

Funding Session – June
Work with the Convention and Visitors Bureau when making recommendations for funding
from the Tourism Account and for the Cultural Innovation Fund.
Update Tier 3 to more effectively support the creative industry and the overarching goal of the
CRB.
Review and revise Fort Fund guidelines and procedures, as needed.
2. Serve as a catalyst for the development of Fort Collins as a cultural center and destination by working
with City Council, staff and cultural groups.
Serve as a proactive voice in advising City Council on projects and issues related to arts and culture
in 2015 including:
o Fort Collins Museum of Discovery
o Lincoln Center
o Community Creative Center at the Carnegie
o Downtown Fort Collins Creative District
o Art in Public Places
o Gardens on Spring Creek
o Building on Basics II
o Southeast Recreation and Arts Center
Stay apprised of any developments in pursuit of an SCFD or other potential funding options
for arts and culture in Fort Collins.
Stay appraised of programs at the University Center for the Arts and opportunities for
collaboration.
Stay appraised of cultural, art, and historical projects and activities, including activities around the
reforming of Beet Street as an arts service agency.
3. Enhance regional awareness of Fort Collins’ arts and cultural events and activities.
Encourage and promote the Community Creative Center as a hub for the creative industry in the
area.
Explore avenues for increased promotion of Fort Fund events.
Encourage Fort Fund recipients to broaden their promotional reach.
Submit a press release announcing Fort Fund grant awards to local media after Council approval.
4. Provide networking opportunities for the exchange of ideas and resources.
Provide liaisons to the following groups to develop awareness of arts and culture in Fort
Collins. These groups include, but aren’t limited to:
Art in Public Places Board - Currently have a liaison.
Convention and Visitors Bureau - Currently have a liaison.
Beet Street – connect regularly for updates.
Downtown Business Association – reestablish with as new leadership comes onboard.
Museum of Discovery Advisory Group – learn more about the group and establish liaison, if
appropriate.
Increase awareness of professional development and networking opportunities by disseminating
information to grantees and the community.
