Campus Edge • To reinforce the campus edges with a continuous, cohesive perimeter that refl ects the image of CSU. Setbacks & Build-to-Lines • Provide a setback line of new structures and buildings that reinforce the street or public open space. • Emphasize entrances by providing an additional setback to accommodate outdoor gathering areas. Building Massing & Scale • Limit building length and depth to 300 feet. • Maintain pedestrian scale with setbacks above 80 feet in height or four stories. • Restrict the number of attached buildings to three. 16 URBAN & ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS JAN. 2015 Building Programming • Establish programs elements that could take advantage of exterior spaces on the ground level. • Organize buildings to strengthen the relationship between interior spaces on campus and the exterior campus environment. Building Entrances • Be prominent and clearly visible, contributing to the life and activity of the outdoor pedestrian environment. • Encourage visual access to academic activities from the pedestrian environment. Open Space • Preserve views to Foothills and beyond • Respect 100-year fl oodplain, enhance when possible • Preserve zone for “student life” and recreation Bicycle & Pedestrian Circulation • On major pedestrian/bicycle routes, separate pedestrians and bicyclists physically, where feasible. Landscape planting beds can buffer the different functions. 17 JAN. 2015 • An internal pedestrian way activated by uses • The Laurel Village Pavilion/Amphitheater as a mid-block community space URBAN & ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS Establish internal “mid-block” community spaces. Create a welcoming sense of arrival and strong indoor-outdoor connections. Locate academic, recreational, student life functions at high traffi c areas. Find ways to interconnect exterior spaces with interior functions to build synergies between inside and outside. “VILLAGE WAY” CONCEPT 18 JAN. 2015 URBAN & ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS TRANSFORMATION WITH LANDSCAPE 19 Complete Streets: • Develop integrated, connected networks of streets that are safe and accessible for all people, regardless of age, ability, income, ethnicity, or chosen mode of travel. • Make active transportation such as walking and bicycling convenient; • Provide increased access to employment centers, commerce, and educational institutions • Allow greater choice in traveling so that transportation doesn’t drain a family’s piggy bank. Current CSU/ City Staff Collaboration: • West Central Area Plan • Lake Street Corridor • Prospect Road Corridor • Shields Street Corridor • Separated Grade Pedestrian/ Bike Crossings • Elizabeth Street Corridor Enhancements • Bicycle Master Plan JAN. 2015 URBAN & ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS COMPLETE STREETS 20 STUDENTS 0’ 75’ 150’ 300’ N GROSS RI SQUARE FEET PARKING BEDS FACULTY STUDENT:FACULTY RATIO AUXILIARY STRUCTURED PARKING INFRASTRUCTURE STUDENT HOUSING RESIDENT INSTRUCTION CUMULATIVE: TOTAL: LEGEND Building Plan 2020 SUMMARY 2014-2024 35,000 8,000 7,941,915 16,063 4,140 7,920 444 1,984 1,828,720 2,620 2012-2024: 18:1 RESEARCH GSF EMBEDDED IN RI: 355,600 NEW GROSS SQUARE FOOTAGE MAIN CAMPUS: MAIN CAMPUS: SOUTH CAMPUS: FOOTHILLS CAMPUS: SOUTH CAMPUS: FOOTHILLS CAMPUS: INFRASTRUCTURE COSTS: TOTAL: 1,328,720 135,000 365,000 $99 M $161 M $22 M $40 M TOTAL: 1,828,720 21 MAIN CAMPUS: MASTER PLAN 2014 LEGEND 35,000 Students JAN. 2015 CSURF-Controlled Property University-Controlled Property New/Future Buildings Existing Buildings WEST PROSPECT ROAD N 22 MASTERPLAN UPDATE SOUTH CAMPUS 23 MASTERPLAN UPDATE SOUTH CAMPUS ASSUMPTIONS • Limited Access Points • Expansion Potential Limited KEY ISSUES • Parking • Access & Security • Portray a Modern Research and Teaching Facility Identity • Integration of Main and South Campuses as a Cohesive Environment 24 SOUTH CAMPUS: CURRENT CONDITIONS 2014 trees: 556 assigned square footage: 902,677 vehicle parking spaces: 879 bicycle parking spaces: 172 GREEN SPACE 42% BUILDING COVERAGE 11% HARDSCAPE 47% 58 acres 15 acres 65 acres total (VTH Campus) acreage: 138 27,000 Students JAN. 2015 25 WEST DRAKE ROAD CENTRE AVENUE CENTRE AVENUE RESEARCH BOULEVARD N WEST DRAKE ROAD CENT CEN CE CCE CCEN CC RE AVENUUUUUUUUUUUUUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE EARC ARC AARC AR RC RCC RCCCCCH H HH HB HHH HHB HHHH HHHHH BB BBBB B 35,000 Students GUIDING PRINCIPLES LEGEND JAN. 2015 SOUTH CAMPUS: FRAMEWORK DIAGRAM • No Development in 100 Year Floodway 100 YEAR FLOODWAY SOUTH CAMPUS GREEN VTH QUAD VTH POND • Maintain + Reinforce Green Quads, Open Spaces CAMPUS IDENTITY GATEWAY CAMPUS IDENTITY CORNER CAMPUS IDENTITY GATEWAY CAMPUS IDENTITY GATEWAY CEEEEEEE CEEE CEE CENT CENTT CENTTTTT CENTTT CEN CENNNN CENN CENNN CE CCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC ENT ENTT EN EEEEEEEEE NT RE REE REEE RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR EA A AAA AAAAA AA VENU VENUU VEENU VEN VENNNNNN VENNNNNNNNNN VENN VENNNN VE VEE VVVV ENU ENUU EN ENN ENNNN NU NUU NUUU NUUUUU EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE 100 YEAR YEARR YEA EAR A AAA FLO FL FFFFF ODWA OODWA OOODWA OD OOO AYYYYYY GREEN SETBACK RESEA RESE RE ESEA ESE EEESEA E ESEEA SE EA DEN DENN DENNNN DE DENNN DDE DEEE DDEEEEE EEEN E EN EEN TITY TIT TITYY TITTY TITYYY TTITY TTTITY T TTTIT TTIT TTTTITY TTTTT TTTI TT I TY TYY T TYYYYYYY YYY Y GREEN SETBAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACK CA CCCC • Establish Green Setbacks at Campus Edges GREEN SETBACK SPRING CREEK TRAIL • Establish Pedestrian + Bike Gateways CAMPUS BIKEWAY CITY BIKEWAY MASON BIKE TRAIL KKKK TTHH CCCCCCCCCCCCCA CA CCCA CCCCAA CCA CCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC RE RRRRRRRRE RRE RRRE R AMP AM AMMP AMM AMPP AMMM AAM AAMMM AAAAAAAAAAAAAA MP MMP M MMMP MMM US UUUS UUS USS UUUUS UUSSS UUUUUUUS UUUSSSSSS U S R GRREE GREE GR GRE GGREE GRRRRREEEE REE R E N NSE NNSE NNNSE NS NNNNN NN NNS NSSE NNSSE NNNNS NSSSSE SSE SETTTTTT S SE GREE GR GRE GRREE GRRE GRRRE G GREEN RE REE R NSEEE N NS NSE NNN SE SEE SETTTTTTBBBBAAAACCCC E TTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC C KKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK KKKK CITY CITYY CITYYY CITYYYY CITYYYYYYY CIT CCCCCCCCCCC ITY IT TY TYY BIK BIKK BI BBBBBBBB IK EWW EWA EWAY EW EEEW EEW EE W WA CENT N RE EEE A VENU ENU EEEE EEEEEEEEE WEST DRAKE ROAD CENTRE AVENUE CENTRE AVENUE RESEARCH BOULEVARD N WEST DRAKE ROAD CENT CEN CE CCE CCEN CC RE AVENUUUUUUUUUUUUUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE ARC RC RRC RCCCCCCH H HH HB HHH HHHH HHHHH BB BBB BOULE BOU B BOUL BO VARD LEGEND Campus Edges - 35,000 Students JAN. 2015 SOUTH CAMPUS: FRAMEWORK DIAGRAM CEEEEEEE CEEE CEE CENT CEN CENTT CENTTTTT CENTTT CENNNN CENN CENNN CE CCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC EEN ENT EN ENTT EEEEEEEEE N NT VENUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU RESEA RESEAR RESE ESEA ESEAR ESE EESEAR E SEA SE EA AAR A RD SPRING CREEK TRAIL CAMPUS BIKEWAY CITY BIKEWAY MASON BIKE TRAIL RE RRE RRRRRRE RRRR EEEEEEE MASON MAS M AS ON O BIKE BIK BIKK IK I ET ETRAI TRAIILL RAI AI AILLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL MAX BRT SPRING CREEK STATION MAX BRT DRAKE STATION MAX BRT PROSPECT STATION NORTH CAMPUS EDGE SOUTH CAMPUS EDGE CENTRE AVE.
