Staff Members Present: Megan Greer, Administrator – Recreation Department

Call meeting to Order:
The meeting was called to order by Chairperson, Pranaya Sathe, at 6:45 pm.
Approval of Minutes:
Minutes approved 8-0, motion by Kelsey, seconded by Langston.
Introduction of new members
Agenda Review:
None
Citizen Participation:
Myles Crane is a member of the Fort Collins Human Relations Committee and came to
discuss some issues with the Youth Advisory Board.
Other Business:
1. Myles Crane from Human Relations Committee brought up many
points.
a. He expressed a thinks for the support YAB provided on the
anti-bullying forum.
b. He presented an event coordinated by Human Relations
Committee, Senior Advisory Board, Women’s Commission,
and Commission on Disabilities called “How to prevent elder
abuse” and asked for YAB support for the event. It will be a 3
part event with resource tables, table discussion, and a
speaking panel.
c. He discussed his meeting with the Mayor and asked that
commissions work on more group projects and asked for the
possibility of YAB members volunteering at the senior center.
2. Pranaya Sathe, Chairman, had a report.
a. There was a COYAC meeting to promote the resolution they
presented to Senate.
b. On April 21
st
, Fort Collins High School, in connection to Anti-
Bullying week, is hosting a Stop and Think event to
demonstrate cultural diversity.
3. The Middle School Pool Party that the YAB hosted was discussed for
potential changes.
a. YAB members should write thank you cards for those who
donated.
b. The lack of structure within the event was good.
c. The date around Spring Break may have decreased interest.
d. The biggest problem was promotional – perhaps lunch visits
should be planned if to do it again.
e. The YAB considered whether or not repeating the event next
year.
4. The Hip Hop Expo’s success was discussed.
a. YAB members said volunteers didn’t have much work and
watched.
b. The event itself was cool and had around 1000 total audience
members. There were around 100 volunteers/ performers as
well.
c. Later on in the night there wasn’t as much enthusiasm.
d. The rapping section was of some concern because this time
because there were some slightly inappropriate raps. Perhaps
next year only rappers under 18 would be accepted.
e. Perhaps the target audience should be changed from middle
school to high school audience.
f. The idea of better seating was brought up.
5. The Hip Hop CSU workshop was discussed.
a. YAB members should try to volunteer.
b. It will be on April 19
th
, from 6pm to 8:30 pm but volunteers
should get there around 5:30 pm.
c. The next night, April 20
th
, there will be a hip hop performance
at the Lincoln Center including groups such as I.Am.Me. and
BreakEFX. Tickets at CSU are $14 and at Northside is $5.
6. Megan asked YAB members about the MAX Art in Public Places
Oben Houses. Nobody went.
7. The Spring Canyon Kites in the Park event will be April 29
th
from
10am to 4pm.
a. Each member should try to get 2 volunteers to help out at the
event. Volunteer shifts run from 9:30 am to 1 pm or 12:30 pm
to 4:30 pm.
b. Last year there were 4000 participants.
c. This year there are some new events, including a Kite
Innovation Challenge where competitors can pick to make a
kite to compete in the following categories: smallest kite,
biggest kite, heaviest kite, most creative kite.
d. There will also be synchronized kite flying and food booths to
buy from.

Pranaya moved to adjourn at 7:48 p.m. and Langston seconded.
