Mason Avenue; Room 1-B Enter through WEST doors The City of Fort Collins Women’s Commission promotes decisions and actions that address the needs and positively impact women in our community. We do this by listening to the voice of women, advising City Council, promoting community events, and educating ourselves and others about safety, health and poverty. Attendees: Catherine Douras, Lea Hanson, Jan Hawn, Marija Weeden-Osborn, Deborah Young, Annette Zacharias, Ginny Carroll Staff Liaison: Suzanne Jarboe-Simpson Absent: Suzette Greany, Merry Hummell Chair Hanson called the meeting to order at 6:36pm Guest: Myles Crane — Human Relations Commission • Commission on Disability to remain independent for awards ceremonies • HRC will be addressing what to do with awards breakfast at November meeting and will keep the WC informed • Summit on Aging in fall 2014 about how to make Larimer County an aging-friendly community o Any interest having a program about the Women’s Commission’s role with the aging community (channel 14)? o Support from the WC for event? • Community discussion about Mental Health in the community from the Center for Public Deliberation at Colorado State to be held in late 2013-2014. Crane invited members of the WCto participate. • Crane will forward any materials requested and will keep us updated about these topics Approval of the June Minutes Chair Hanson entertained a motion to approve the June 19, 2013 meeting minutes. It was moved by Douras and seconded by Hawn. The motion passed with no discussion. New Business 1. Boards and Commissions Outcome Area Alignment a. Spreadsheet from City Clerk’s office with topics that line up with funding from City b. Community and Neighborhood Livability has the most alignment c. What is the best community involvement model to give input to City Council? d. Review will be at City Council retreat in October e. The WC would like to be part of the discussion. A member could join the committee, the WC could send a message to CC, or we can offer to facilitate the conversation after the decision from CC. 2. Colorado Disability Pride Fest - September 7, noon — 6:00 p.m. a. Weeden-Osborn suggested that it could be an information gathering opportunity. Booth? Or wear nametags and walk around? i. Hanson will compose questions for informal informational survey ii. Young will review iii. Zacharias, Weeden-Osborn & Hawn will attend and conduct informal informational survey iv. Hanson will email to request a booth 3. Defining a vision (in concert with Council) for our community a. A vision of the role of women in Fort Collins b. Including services, business, and practices Ongoing Business 1. Using data from the Women’s Foundation 2013 Status Report http://www.wfco.org/document doc?id—519 a. What do we do with this information? How do we obtain data specific to Fort Collins? b. Education for WC members c. WFCO strategies 2. Cliff Effect film in Fort Collins and panel discussion October 16. The WC meeting will be rescheduled so that members can attend and participate in the event through sponsoring and/or volunteering.
