Women’s Commission Meeting Minutes
February 20, 2013
6:30—8:30 p.m.
215 N. Mason Avenue; Room 1-B

The City of Fort Collins Women’s Commission promotes decisions and actions that address the needs and positively
impact women in our community. We do this by listening to the voice of women, advising city council, promoting
community events, and educating ourselves and others about safety, health and poverty.
Attendees: Catherine Douras, Suzette Greany, Lea Hanson, Merry Hummell, Marija Weeden-Osborn, Deborah
Young, Annette Zacharias, Ginny Carroll
Staff Liaison: Suzanne Jarboe-Simpson
Absent: Jan Hawn
Chair Hanson called the meeting to order at 6:38pm
Approval of Minutes
Douras moved to approve the February 9,2013 retreat minutes. It was seconded by Hummell. The motion passed
with no discussion.
Zacharias moved to approve the January 2013 meeting minutes. It was seconded by Young. The motion passed
with no discussion.
New Business
1. Equal Pay Day Proclamation (April) - Weeden-Osborn will review and revise and send to the
Commission for approval
2. Possible Collaboration with Senior Advisory Board re: Older Americans Month (May) — Hanson
will email about support
3. CSU Take Back the Night participation and support — Douras will contact CSU for date
4. Collaboration with HRC for annual awards breakfast —Thursday, May 2
a. Press release in Coloradoan 2/19/13
b. Hanson has been in contact with NRC about cosponsoring and editing program, etc.
5. CSU Women’s Conference March 9— Douras
a. Women and Gender Advocacy sponsored
b. Any members of WC invited to attend
Ongoing Business
1. International Women’s Day and Women’s History Month Proclamation approved and sent to
the Clerk’s office
2. Retreatfollowup
a. Inviting member of Affordable Housing Board to meeting — Weeden-Osborn
b. Student Action Housing Plan updates — was not voted on at last night’s City Council
meeting
c. Upcoming events/forums for City Council candidates — Weeden-Osborn
i. League of Women Voters forum for mayoral candidates — Women’s Commission
can submit questions (March 6,7, or 8?)
ii. Chamber of Commerce
Questions:
1. What kind of affordable housing plan do you envision for our community? What is your vision for
affordable housing? What would that entail?
2. What do you consider to be the issues that women face in this community?
3. What are the major issues involving safety for people in Fort Collins?
4. What do see as the role of City Boards and Commissions?
d. Upcoming transportation issues — WC members will contact people to speak at meeting
3. Affordable Health Care Community Event Check-in — Zacharias
4. Annual Mixer planning — May22
a. City Staff invited to speak about recommendations
b. Bring goals/highlights from 2013 work plan, issues and events, especially issues that will
go to City Council
c. Agenda — Outcomes from collaboration (annual chair meeting to align work plans)
d. Questions to lead discussion — ways other B&Cs can support yours, issues and events
5. Marcille N. Wood Award — nominations sent to Hanson by March 6, 2013
6. One Billion Rising event—VDay for next year
7. March meeting rescheduled to March 13, 2013
