ADA ACCESS & ACCOMMODATION Work Plan Item: Assigned To: Action Items: Outcome: Assist City boards and commissions (as listed in Addendum A) in ADA compliance and implementation Commission members as identified in Addendum A Receive agendas and minutes; attend meetings as necessary; promote COD positions; and report status to COD. Make generic list of who will be assigned to each board. Contact Boards and Commissions they are representing and respond as issues arise. Encourage and support efforts of City boards and commissions to be ADA compliant. Promote awareness of issues for citizens with disabilities. Assist City departments in ADA compliance and implementation Full commission as needed Invite department representatives to COD meetings (individually) for information sharing. COD to respond to issues related to ADA compliance as they arise. Encourage and support efforts of City departments to be ADA compliant. Promote awareness of issues for citizens with disabilities. II. COMMUNICATION & EDUCATION Work Plan Item: Assigned To: Action Items: Outcome Annual COD Work Session Full Commission and City Staff as needed Develop following year work plan in November. Team building focusing on developing unity, strength, excitement, and goals of COD; working draft of upcoming year’s work plan. COD Outreach with Local Service Agencies Establish Subcommittee COD Vice-Chairman with assistance from full commission as needed Update local service agencies list and draft letter of introduction/invitation to COD. Invite representative of local service agencies to COD meetings (topical). III. SUBCOMMITTEES Community Access Sub-Item: Action Items: Outcomes: Public Outreach Provide representative as appropriate for events pertaining to persons with disabilities. Increase community awareness. Accessible Housing Educate public on barrier-free housing. Increase awareness of need of accessible residences and what qualifies as an accessible residence. Media Relations Chairman & Assignee Utilize the media to promote or discuss issues pertaining to people with disabilities. Encourage communication between the COD and the media; encourage inclusion of issues and items concerning people with disabilities. Mayor’s Awards Nominations and Event Cost: $4,000. Sub-Committee Chair and full commission as needed and City Staff Liaison & Support Solicit nominations for Mayor’s Awards all year. Plan and coordinate Mayor’s Awards event for October (Disability Awareness Month). Quality nominations received for deserving individuals. Host an event recognizing individuals, businesses, and service agencies exhibiting dedication to persons with disabilities. IV. POLICY & PROCEDURES Work Plan Item: Assigned To: Action Items: Outcome: Annual Review of COD By-Laws Executive Committee Review the By-laws for clarity and report to full commission if revisions are needed. Keep the By-laws current and understandable. Correspondence City Staff Liaison and Support Issue statements or letters of commendation, recommendation or support (to agencies, businesses and individuals on an ongoing basis as the need arises. To recognize and support business, organizations and individuals for their efforts in providing accessibility to people with disabilities. Outgoing Commission Member Recognition Cost: $350.00 City Staff Liaison and Support Plan event to recognize outgoing commission members. Thank you to outgoing members. Budget Meals: $1,000.00 City Staff Liaison and Support Submit budget & report status periodically. Research mechanism for collecting and disbursing money for COD projects. Procedure for allocation of funds. Establish connections with local providers of services; inform representatives of COD mission, activities, and goals. Create introduction letter to give to local service agencies.
