2. Approval of Minutes
December: Approved. Motion by Hueber, Second by Cavallaro.
3. Open Discussion General Public
• Devereaux reported that his meeting with Nicole Hahn of TransFort took place
yesterday (1/12/11). Schlicting was unable to attend. The stop at Boardwalk
and JFK was not cleared after the last snowfall. The snow was simply plowed
into the bike lane, decreasing access to the bus stop even more. TransFort is
aware of stops with limited mobility access and will report them to the City’s
Nuisance Line. Beginning the week of February 14 through May Linden
street will be blocked off for utility work. Busses may need to be rerouted.
The Bus Stop Accessibility Survey has been completed. An active schedule
for TransFort and the Flex bus can be found at www.flexnoco.com. Hahn will
keep in touch with Devereaux via PTAG.
• Hueber attended a meeting at Foothills Gateway recently. She learned that the
RTD drivers in Denver were required to attend Disability Sensitivity Training.
Miller confirmed earlier with Craig Duban of TransFort that their drivers had
also completed this training.
• Devereaux shared a copy of the new COFC Bike Trail Map with the COD. He
pointed out that there were 16 sites that reported a grade of 6% or more.
Cavallaro pointed out that some of the trails that cross city traffic only have the
pedestrian cross button on one side of the street. If you are coming from the
opposite direction, there is not a cross button accessible.
• Franklin-Gaumer inquired about any progress made to allow motorized bikes
on the bike trails. Klender was looking into this.
• Hueber attended a meeting on advocacy for individuals with disabilities. One
of the first things shared with this group was the COD meeting schedule and
location.
• Franklin-Gaumer mentioned that at the Mayor’s Appreciation BBQ,
outgoing/retiring members were honored for their years of service. Some of
these individuals had 10, 15, even 20 years of service. She wasn’t aware that
this was possible. Another member pointed out that this was possibly Board
membership as opposed to Commission membership. COD members agreed
that limited term membership was a positive way to keep the Commission
fresh with new perspectives.
4. New Business
COD Nominations for the Executive Committee Positions
The following members were nominated for the following Executive Committee
positions:
Chair Jeffrey Coon
Vice Chair Michael Devereaux
Historian Hettie Hueber
Secretary Michelle Miller
These minutes will reflect a “Call for Nominations”. The positions will be voted
on at the February COD meeting. If there is not a quorum at the February meeting,
the vote will be no later than March.
Old Business
a. Affordable/Accessible Housing
Coon exchanged e-mail with Sean Doherty, who is the chair of Colorado Board of
Realtors. Doherty got him in touch with Mike Malby who is a member of the
Board. The on-line MLS listings had a section for “Disabled Accessibility”
however, most of the listings just said “Handicap Features” with no other specific
information. Coon will contact the Rental Authority for more specific
information. He wonders if www.coloradorentals.com could be urged to provide
a drop down menu entitled “Accessible Housing”. Hueber noted that at
www.disability.gov there is a drop down menu “I Want Housing”. Hueber
thought something like a community housing fair might help uncover other
resources. Miller will look into the possibility of the Larimer County Workforce
Center sponsoring, or co-sponsoring, a resource fair, a job fair, or a combination
of the two, for individuals with disabilities.
b. City of Fort Collins Website
Hueber suggested that helpful links, or a calendar of events would make a useful
addition to the COD website. Cozzens will check with the COFC Webmaster, but
feels if there is a cost involved this could be prohibitive. It was pointed out that
navigating the COFC website to the COD page is still difficult for some.
Devereaux thinks that if the Coloradoan ran a series of articles detailing the use of
the city website, more individuals might be encouraged to try it.
5. Adjourn: 1:55pm
