HomeMy WebLinkAboutCommission On Disability - Minutes - 07/24/2014COMMISSION ON DISABILITY Fort Collins City Hall 12:15 pm Thursday July 24, 2014 Present: Jeni Arndt, Mike Devereaux, Leslie Efird, Hettie Hueber, Michael Marr Michelle Miller Absent: Jeff Coon, Tommy Klender, Rose Luna (all with contact) City: Ethan Cozzens, Rosanne McDonnell Guests: Amanda Snowdon, owner of Chill, a contractor to Foothills Gateway; Jenny Miller and Dave Swineheart, Disabled Resource Services Called to Order: 12:30 pm 1. Introductions: Guests, Board Members and City Liaisons introduced themselves. 2. Approval of Minutes from June: Miller moved to approve. Hueber seconded. 3. Open Discussion: Arndt mentioned a woman in the community who is interested in establishing at CSU a home for people with disabilities who are may not be enrolled at the university but who are college age. Hueber asked about information regarding Transfort for people who may not have a computer. ridetransfort.com/route-changes is the website for Transfort route changes. 4. New Business: a. Jenny Miller and Dave Swineheart, Development Director at DRS are here to request an endorsement letter for the Colorado Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. Their goal is to receive funding to buy adaptive equipment for the Deaf and Hard of hearing that is not required by the ADA—but is essential. For example, a vibrating alarm clock, a lighted doorbell, signalers for babies, FM hearing systems on a loan basis. Full funding would be 10,000 to have enough equipment to meet the current needs. The deadline for submission is the end of this month. The letter would be needed by the end of next week. Hueber moves and Efrid seconded that the Commission provides a letter in favor of their application to the The Colorado Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, Marr recused himself. Vote 5-0. b. Comment by Dave on the PersonFirst fest. Volunteers and registrations are filling up. Commission from Loveland and ARC of Larimer County are participating. 5. Old Business a. Person first festival. Next meeting for steering committee b. Affordable Housing: Jeff Coon is gone this month. c. City goals should be included in our workplan. d. Mayor’s Awards—Meeting second Thursday of October, November and December in order to accommodate the holidays. The cards will be available at Rosanne’s desk starting next week. Commission members should pick up some cards and distribute them. 6. Community News and Updates 7. Adjourn Meeting adjourned at 1:28. Devereaux moved to adjourn. Marr seconded.
