YEARLY HIGHLIGHTS - 2011 The Cultural Resources Board (CRB) has the overarching goal “To serve as a catalyst in making Fort Collins a cultural center and destination.” To achieve this goal the CRB worked in four major areas: 1. Serve as a catalyst for the development of Fort Collins as a cultural center and destination by working with City Council, staff and cultural groups  CRB advised Council on several important issues during 2011. CRB held a special meeting to review the new Museum’s exhibit plan and provide feedback on the development process and plans to the City Council. CRB also invited local historian, Wayne Sundberg, and Katy Schneider from the Fort Collins Convention and Visitors Bureau to join them in the review. A memo with their findings was submitted to Council.  CRB endorsed the new name for the Museum, the Fort Collins Museum of Discovery, in August of 2011. The board provided their endorsement to the City Manager.  The Board discussed the new name for the former Mini-Theater at Lincoln Center, and ultimately supported the new name, “Magnolia Theatre” to the City Manager.  CRB was regularly updated on the progress and work of the Art in Public Places program through a board liaison to the APP Board. The CRB supported the APP program to City Council, as Council reviewed the program in early 2012.  CRB members served as liaisons to several groups to gain a broader understanding of the cultural activities in Fort Collins. The CRB was represented with the following groups: - Beet Street Board – Patrick Moran - Convention/Visitors Bureau – Diane Gaede - Art in Public Places – Carol Ann Hixon - Downtown Business Association – John Hayes  The Board kept up to date on the progress of the Lincoln Center Renovation and the new Museum facility, touring both facilities and receiving monthly updates. 2. Enhance regional awareness of Fort Collins’ arts and cultural events and activities  CRB continued to support the Fort Collins Convention and Visitor Bureau’s on-line events calendar and in 2011 required Fort Fund grantees to list their events on the calendar. The Convention and Visitors Bureau made improvements to the on-line calendar in 2011, located at www.visitftcollins.com/events .  CRB members served as liaisons to events funded by Fort Fund, attending approximately 40 different cultural events in the community, lending support and assuring that the Fort Fund monies were being well spent. 3. Leverage available resources to the Board in forwarding the overarching goal.  Fort Fund: The Board implemented significant changes to the Fort Fund program in 2011, and fine tuned the changes throughout the year. The Board administered three funding sessions for Fort Fund and recommended grants for distribution as follows: February 2011 Session $51,400 to 27 applicants Tier 2, April 2011 Session $125,900 to 19 applicants, Tier 1 $33,000 to 3 applicants, Cultural Innovation Fund June 2011 Session $36,200 to 17 applicants, Tier 2 Total $246,500 to 49 different organizations (listed below)  Fort Fund grants provided support to over one hundred community cultural and recreational events in 2011.  The Board recommended three Cultural Entrepreneurial Innovation (CIF) fund grants. These grants went to the Downtown Business Association for Jazz Fest, to the Fort Collins Museum of Art’s Dale Chihuly exhibit, and to Beet Street’s “Streetmosphere.”  The Board continued to work cooperatively with the Convention and Visitor’s Bureau in making recommendations for Fort Fund dollars that encourage tourism. 4. Provide networking opportunities for the exchange of ideas and resources.  The CRB continued to serve as liaisons to appropriate groups in meeting the CRB’s overarching goal.  CRB also hosted a workshop titled, “Writing a Successful Fort Fund Grant” in October. The workshop provided information on the guideline revisions, answered attendee questions about the program, and offered an opportunity for the Board to interact with cultural organizations.  CRB board members attend events funded with Fort Fund grants. 2011 Fort Fund Recipients Artists Association of Northern Colorado Alzheimer's Association Bas Bleu Theatre Company Beet Street Canyon Concert Ballet Center for Fine Art Photography Center for Resource Conservation City of Fort Collins Recreation Department Colorado All State Orchestra Colorado Coalition of Artists (CoCOA) Colorado State University Department of Art Dance Express Debut Theatre Disabled Resource Services Discovery Science Center Downtown Business Association Elderhaus Adult Day Program Eracism Film Series Committee Ethos Chamber Orchestra West Foothills Pops Band Fort Collins Children's Theater Fort Collins Figure Skating Club Fort Collins Museum Fort Collins Museum Foundation Fort Collins Museum of Art Fort Collins Musicians Association Fort Collins Symphony Association Fort Collins Symphony Guild Fort Collins Wind Symphony Friends of The Gardens on Spring Creek Friends of Larimer County Parks and Open Lands Front Range Family Theatre Project High Performance Dance Theatre Horsetooth Productions IMPACT Dance Company Junior League of Fort Collins Larimer Chorale Lincoln Center Support League Northern Colorado Intertribal Powwow Association (NCIPA) Northern Colorado Weavers Guild OpenStage Theatre & Company Opera Fort Collins Poudre Landmarks Foundation, Inc.
