Women~s Commission Meeting Minutes
Wednesday January 16, 2013

The City of Fort Collins Women’s Commission promotes decisions and actions that address the needs and positively
impact women in our community. We do this by listening to the voice of women, advising city council, promoting
community events, and educating ourselves and others about safety, health and poverty.
Attendees: Catherine Douras, Lea Hanson, Jan Hawn, Marija Weeden-Osborn, Deborah Young, Annette Zacharias,
Ginny Carroll
Staff Liaison: Suzanne iarboe-Simpson
Absent: Suzette Greany, Merry Hummell
Chair called the meeting to order at 6:31pm
Approval of the December Minutes
Hanson moved to approve the December 2012 meeting minutes. It was seconded by Weeden-Osborn. The motion
passed with no discussion.
Introductions & Announcements
New member is Suzette Greany. Douras met with Greany to welcome her to the Women’s Commission.
New Business
1. Discuss retreat date and agenda
a. February 9, 2013

c. Jarboe-Simpson will check on locations
d. Lunch — Zacharias
e. Hanson will set agenda
i. Review and revise display board
ii. Revisit subcommittees and determine roles, if any
iii. Action items for 2013 (events i.e. Pride in the Park)
iv. Review of Women’s Commission by City Council
V. WC role in discussion of Boards and Commissions (mixers, collaboration meetings, etc.)
vi. Begin brainstorm for 2013 mixer-time, place, date
vii. Council Work Plan
viii. Marcille N. Wood award and breakfast on May 2, 2013
ix. State bills regarding Women’s health (Weeden-Osborn)

*Motion: Zacharias moved to approve the slate for 2013 officers. It was seconded by Young. The motion passed
with no discussion.
3. Women at Noon presentation at Colorado State
a. April 17, 2013
b. l.ory Student Center
c. Summary for series flyer — Douras
d. Present three focus areas (i.e. safety on and off campus and poverty)
e. Bring brochures and board
4. International Women’s Day and/or Women’s History Month proclamations (March) preparation
a. Young will revise proclamations
b. iarboe-Simpson will send to City Council by February 20, 2013
5. Review/Vote on 2012 Annual Report
*Motion: Douras moved to approve the revised the 2012 Annual Report. It was seconded by Zacharias. The
motion passed with no discussion.
Ongoing Business
1. Update regarding B&C improvements subcommittees
a. Hanson did not receive responses from the second email regarding the collaborative process
b. Clerk’s office supports the process
2. Review Action Items
a. Hawn contacted Helen Davis about Women’s Commission’s interest in topic of Elder Abuse. Will
meet with Davis and discuss interest and ask about potential speakers.
b. Zacharias updated the Commission on the Lincoln Greens redevelopment
3. City Council updates and six-month planning calendar
4. Student Housing Action Plan
a. Douras emailed plan to Commission prior to meeting
b. Zacharias gave update about land code discussion
c. Upcoming issues — Compatibility, parking, and defining types of multifamily housing
5. Possible speakers — P&Z, Transportation Board (Douras), Housing Authority (Hawn), CDBG, Crossroads
Safehouse
6. Zacharias will bring a list of relevant community events to the retreat
