4. New Business
COD Annual Work Plan – There will be a brief meeting on November 10
th
at 2:15 to
review, and finalize, the 2012 work plan for submission.
5. Old Business
a. Hearing Loops Discussion
Cozzens has submitted pricing for the costs of looping City Council Chambers
and the Lincoln Center. It appears that most flooring is constructed of a concrete
slab with a lot of rebar. It would be very labor intensive and expensive to tear
into the floors. Laura, with Assist To Hear, does not think the portable loops are
as effective, but they may be the only option within budget, if budgeted for at all.
Then there is the issue of maintenance. Who is responsible? What might it cost?
Cozzens continues to look into this.
b. Mayor’s Awards Update – Hueber/Coon
It was another wonderful event. Hueber’s hard work and planning were
applauded for the success as were Coon’s emcee skills. Wonderful job everyone.
The event should show up on channel 14 soon. Hueber has asked members to
begin looking for articles/information/news that mention community members
and overcoming barriers related to disabilities. These could be possible
nominations for October 2012. COD thought it would be a great idea to take
nominations all year instead of trying to get them in for consideration in a tight
timeframe.
c. Bullying Forum Update – Hueber/Coon
Hueber and Coon attended this event and staffed a booth with Connor Kelly who
is working on an Eagle Scout Project. His project is to get signatures on a
“Spread the Word to End the Word” banner. Connor will be invited to the
December meeting and given a Letter of Thanks from the COD for his project.
The COD would like to thank him also in person.
d. Elderhaus Crosswalk – Cozzens
Cozzens has been looking into this issue. He has spoken with traffic engineers
and the Streets Department. The biggest question is who is responsible
financially. He will continue his investigation. What constitutes unsafe
conditions? Are there policies regarding street safety around housing that serves
the special needs of individual populations? All are good questions.
6. Community News and Updates
