1. Call to Order: 12:38 by Terry Schlicting
2. Introductions: (10 minutes) Sign in sheet made rounds. Ethan and Rosanne
introduced themselves as the new City Liaisons taking over for Bruce and Jenna.
3. Approval of Minutes:
There were no minutes from October 8
th
. The Mayor’s award Luncheon replaced the
COD meeting.
4. Open Discussion General Public & Community News: (20
minutes) Mike and Cheryl have begun touring from the Northern Hotel to the Starry
Night Coffee Shop, checking mobility access to the various restaurants, retailers, etc.,
along that route. Many shops have a front step making entrance difficult for individuals
with limited mobility. It was conjectured that some of these businesses would increase
their revenue if they were accessible to all. It was suggested that the DDA (Downtown
Development Authority) might be able to assist with the purchase of portable ramps.
Another barrier to entrance is heavy doors. There may be scales that can measure a
door for the amount of force required to open it. Terry will check with Wendy Williams
about these scales.
Cobblestone surfaces will be given a mobility “test run” before any more alley
“facelifts” occur.
5. New Business
Beverly was presented with a certificate thanking her for her service to the COD.
December will be her last meeting.
Terry’s service is also done in December, but he may volunteer another year.
6. Old Business
The sidewalk leading to the EPIC Center from the new bus stop was measured for grade.
It is a 10% grade. ADA requires it to be no more than 7%, but the sidewalk and the EPIC
Center were built in 1985, before the ADA was signed into law. Terry will e-mail
Wendy Williams, who represents the city on ADA issues, and see what, if anything, the
city is willing to do to resolve this.
7. Adjourn: Meeting adjourned at 2:20pm
