HomeMy WebLinkAbout2008 - Transportation Board - Annual ReportCity of Fort Collins 2008 WORK PLAN RESULTS Transportation Board Gary Thomas, Chair The goal of the Transportation Board it to promote the implementation of a balanced transportation system that provides choice, mobility, access, congestion mitigation, and safetyfor all people while achieving: 1) Efficient and Effective movement ofpeople and goods throughout the community; 2) A reduction in the rate of Vehicle Miles Traveled growth to equal the rate of population growth; and 3) Enhanced mobility through emphasis of modal shifts. L Advise City Council on transportation issues, planning and construction projects in a timely fashion • Sent letter to council regarding the 392 interchange proposal • Supported the Bicycle Plan • Supported the River District plan • Supported the North College Avenue plan • Supported the Climate Action Plan • Supported various Harmony road plans including the River Walk Transit Oriented Development project • Advised on transportation considerations for the trash districting study • Providing ongoing input to the transit strategic study II. Transportation Financing — explore financing options to address transportation needs, including, but not limited to, dedicated funding mechanisms • Attended public input session for the city budget process • Pushed for additional pavement management funds in budget • Currently supporting transit study with finance committee • Monitoring Cost of Government initiative by city; representative monitored the City Council retreat. III. Education and Outreach — reach out proactively to the community to both solicit input and educate regarding transportation issues that face the city • Members participated on several community transportation initiatives including: o UniverCity Transit and Mobility Taskforce o Dial -A -Ride and Transit Accessibility Committee (DARTAC) o Railroad study o Climate taskforce Transit Study Finance Committee • Attended public events on budget • Attended public events on transit study • Attended Mason Corridor Transit Oriented Development tour and event • Attended the Governor's Transportation Finance Panel outreach presentation �Of tfins IV. Transportation Safety — Promote transportation safety as it affects all modes of transportation, via consideration of engineering, education and enforcement • Met with police services and recommended improvements • Supported safety issues within bike plan • Participated in Railroad study V. Regional Transportation — Build communication links with other transportation bodies in the city and region • Monitored efforts to establish a Regional Transportation Authority and attended both North Front Range Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) regional transportation summits • Monitors MPO meetings and CDOT's SB-I Transit Taskforce process • Participated in a three -city Transportation Boards get together following the second MPO Summit
