• Executive/Maryanne. Maryanne reported this is her last meeting as an HRC member.
She's enjoyed working with the Board --a great group of people during an exciting time
in the Commission's history. Elaine Boni has agreed to act as Chair on an interim basis.
Maryanne will still be in town and is available to help with projects such as brochure
updates. She plans to complete the business card project soon.
Government Relations/Kelly. Elaine reported there had been a change from the plan to
tape a Cable 14 A City at a Glance program on Monday, April 28, 4 p.m. Cable staff
said the six people set to speak were too many for the 30 minute format. Cable staff
recommended a longer program (45 minutes) and will be working directly with Chief
Harrison to finalize program specs and the additional funds needed for the longer
program.
There was discussion on how to best prepare. Maryanne suggested rehearsals; Joann
wanted to submit questions for which they could prepare; Elaine suggested spontaneous
responses.
• Education/Community Outreach/Joann.
• Joann, Karen & Kelly shared information on the sessions they attended at the NIOTA
sponsored Conference on Cults, Gangs & Hate Groups April 12`h.
• Elaine reported she attended the Pathways Past Poverty event at the North Aztlan
Community Center on April 30`h. Of special interest to her is the effect poverty has
on the senior community.
• Kelly will continue to work on the Sunset of Colorado Civil Rights Commission
(CCRC) project in which the HRC will invite the CCRC to make a presentation, invite
the public, Mayor, City Council and City Manager, and work to find a better way to
facilitate the process for those who want to file claims of discrimination. Kelly also
offered to contact Council Liaison Lisa Poppaw and invite her to attend an HRC
meeting.
• Maryanne and Elaine reported the Commission missed the CSU Diversity
Conference Request for Proposals deadline. Elaine suggested a couple of members
attend the Fall conference —learning what topics are of interest at the upcoming
conference and make the necessary program committee contacts/get on their
mailing list with the objective being the HRC sponsoring a panel at their 2009
conference.
• Karen suggested the Education Committee coordinate a program in support of Kids
Days (May 17, 2009.)
Cristina said the
upcoming PR/CR committee meeting (Thursday, May 15) is cancelled.
Everyone agreed the 2008 Human Rights Award Breakfast was a great success. Elaine
thought the range of nominations received were exceptional. Commission members
noted how proud the Muslim Student Association recipients were of the recognition they
received. They thought Susan Kirkpatrick's speech was excellent.
• Kelly will take lead in submitting a "Thumbs Up" entry to the Coloradoan
commending the Lincoln Center and the MOCA students on their contributions to the
success of the event.
• Cristina said there's a place on the Coloradoan's website where digital photos of the
event can be posted.

Maya and other will forward their digital photos to Becky.
Becky will update on www.fcgov.com/hra the 2007 and 2008 HRAward recipient
information; Cable 14 DVD of HRA breakfast; and select 2008 digital photos
provided by HRC members.
OLD BUSINESS
Becky submitted registration for a table at the June 7`h Pride in the Park event. Members
signed up to set up, to host the booth from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and to tear down. (Elaine has
that list.) It was also suggested and agreed that the HRC Brochure be finalized by
Maryanne by adding a group HRC picture and the HRC tag line; and emailing the final
brochure to Becky to make 200 copies prior to June 7`h. Elaine Boni will pick up brochures
from Becky for folding when they are ready.
6. NEW BUSINESS
HRC Retreat. Joann asked if there was any interest in scheduling a retreat. There was a
consensus that later this summer would be a good time. The Education Committee will take
lead on planning logistics —coming back to the commission members with potential dates.
