Regular meeting — November 5, 2008

Call meeting to Order:
The regular meeting of the Youth Advisory Board was called to order at 6:25 p.m. by Board Vice -
chairperson Kai Stuckey.
Approval of Minutes from October 1, 2008:
On a motion by Laura and seconded by Vivian, the minutes were approved unanimously (4-0).
A¢enda Review:
There was no agenda review.
Citizen Participation:
There was no citizen participation.
Chairman's report:
Other business:
a. Issues for Board consideration: Steve asked the members, in particular the youth members
what were some issues that youth today are interested in or need help with. Kai suggested
drugs and alcohol, but Vivian suggested that training & help with this area really needs to start
in elementary school. Laura said that there are many other agencies that handle this area, ie.
Team Fort Collins has a presentation coming up soon on this. Caroline said that bike paths and
lanes are important to many youth, but it was not determined if the board will take any action
on this topic.
b. Work Plan — the work plan was adopted with no changes.
1) Reorganization/restructuring of the Youth Advisory Board
2) Meet with the Loveland Youth Commission for a joint discussion on "Where the Youth
Advisory Board is going"
3) Continue the speaker series
c. Plans were made to attend the next meeting of the Loveland Youth Commission which is on
Wednesday, December 3 at 5 pm at the Loveland Museum. This will be in place of our regular
meeting. Steve will drive a van which will leave from Northside.
On a motion by Caroline which was seconded by Laura, the meeting was adjourned at 6:50 pm (4-0).

The meeting was followed by a presentation by Nancy Terry of Premier Mortgage on credit. It was
attended by approximately 15 young people in addition to the board.
Things which hurt your credit are:
- late payments
- credit cards being maxed out
- closing credit cards
- shopping for credit excessively
- opening up numerous trades over a short time
- having more revolving debt
- borrowing from finance companies.
Things which do not hurt your credit are:
- debt to income ratio
- income
- length of residence
- length of employment
- race, color, religion
Who looks at your credit score?
- creditors
- landlords
- insurance companies
- employers
What can you do to improve your credit score?
- pay your bills on time
- pay down on your existing credit cards
- don't open new charge accounts
I in 4 credit reports have an error on them.
The only credit help company which Nancy recommended was Consumer Credit Counseling.
