Minutes, April 8, 1974.
The Commission's meeting opened at 3:45 P.M. in the City Council Chambers. Those
present were: June Bennett, Acting Chair Person; Jan Painter, Chuck Burchfield, Gary
Hixon, Wayne Sundberg, Elwin Hunter, Members.
Avery House
Chuck Burchfield had nothing additional to report. June felt that the City will be
moving on it soon.
Fuller House
Jan Painter reported on her call to L. Howard Glasgow in Nebraska. Mr. Glasgow can
not do anything about the house but he suggested that his mother, Gussie Glasgow, be con-
tacted for a tour. Jan Painter made contact and a tour for she and June will be conducted
on Wednsday, April 17, 1974. They will report back to the Commission.
Andrews House
New owners are not the apartment house builders, instead they are Richard and Eleanor
Anderson and they own at least three of the adjacent houses in the block. June Bennett
is waiting for a return call from the owners before pursuing this further.
Library
June Bennett reported that the Stearns -Rogers report gave preservation of the
structure. Landmark criteria was discussed. The possibility of a landmark district,
to include library park and possibly all houses facing library park, rather than approach-
ing individual owners, was suggested as a move to preserve a larger area more quickly
and with less difficulty. Tabled.
Review of Ordinance
Discussion of 90 day hold in declaring landmarks; perhaps ordinance needs updating.
Denver's ordinance has-been changed to 180 days.
Water Works
June Bennett read a letter that she had written to Robert Brunton stating that we
are taking it under advisement.
Northern Hotel
June Bennett pointed out the hotel's ad from the Coloradoan and the work the owners
have done to preserve it. Wayne Sundberg volunteered to contact the owners and try to
get permission to declare it a landmark. June Bennett will write a letter of commendation
to the hotel owners for their work in restoring the building.
Plummer School
Contacts will be made to find out status of building.
Pictures of Inventoried Homes
Wayne Sundberg suggested that the Commission reproduce a 5"x7" colored photo of each
house on our inventory to be put in a ring binder notebook for use at meetings.
Boughton House
Wayne Sundberg will contact Golden Taylor to try and get landmark designation approval.
New Members
Moved that Liston Leyendecker be approved as Dan Tyler's replacement and be designated
as a voting member. Chuck Burchfield moved, Jan Painter seconded. Passed.
Next meeting will be April 29, 1974 at 3:30 P.M. in the Council Chambers
