HISTORIC LANDMARKS COMMISSION
Minutes, August 12, 1974.
1we Commission's meeting opened at 3:45 P.M. in the City Council Chambers. Those
present were: Jim Cox, Chairman; Chuck Burchfield, Jan Painter, Elwin Hunter, and "
Joe Mason, Members.
NOTE: WORK SESSION DUE TO LACK OF QUORUM
1. Report on change of Landmark Ordinances by City Council.
2. De Sillio School Report:
- Chuck Burchfield is to talk with Bill Holmes in City Manager's Office
about progress on preserving building.
3. Ken Medearis did sound vibration testing on Old Water Works:
- New portion is poorest shape of three sections.
- Southern and middle buildings reported to be in good shape. ,
- Chuck Burchfield reported on couple who are interested in renovating
and opening Water Works as an art gallery.
4. Inventory:
- Larimer County has set up an inventory similar to what the City has done.
- County also has formed a new County Historical Landmark Commission made
up of people from Estes Park, Berthoud, Loveland, and Fort Collins.
- City is to submit landmark quality properties to the County, then to be
sent to the State Historical Society, from there to the National Trust
to be published in National Trust Book of Historic places.
�. Bicentennial Moles:
Federal Government has given State $200,000 and the State Legislature has
allocated $170,000 of that amount to approximately four properties about
the State, leaving only $30,000 for remainder of State. However, Federal
Government has not approved this.
6. Jefferson Street:
- Barton-Aschman is to be consulted concerning this area on August 13, 1974.
7. Nelson Milkhouse:
- Jim Cox will meet tomorrow with a man from Everitt Enterprises concerning
possible uses for the Milkhouse.
8. Avery House:
- Requests have been submitted to the State Historical Society for refur-
bishing funds. Results of this request will be known in October.
- It was suggested that there was much talent in the area which could be
tapped for work on the Avery House, thereby stretching funds that are
available now.

•. Organization of Commission:
.Joe Mason stated that he felt it was time for the Poudre Landmark
Foundation to become organized and go to work.
Will. have organizational meeting of all members of the Landmark
Commission and will be called by Jim Cox, Chairman.
II. Old Library:
- Jan Painter asked that the Commission make its position clear con-
cerning the altering of the exterior of the Library in Library Park..
- Jim Cox said that he would send a letter to the Library Board stating
in general that we are opposed to the tearing down or altering of the
Library Building.
