Nomination Committee presented the slate of officers for 2007-2008: Marcia Richards — Chair, Anita Basham — Vice Chair and Kathy Schuster — Secretary. The Board will vote at the June meeting. IX. Old Business A. Report and commentary on social meeting with mayor and members of City Council on May 1, 2007 - Three Council members attended the Artist Reception at the Senior Center: Wade Troxell, Lisa Poppaw and Ben Manvel. Much of the conversation was about transportation, particularly Dial -A -Ride. Peggy McGough will send invitations to City Council members inviting for Senior Health and Fitness Day, hoping that the ones who couldn't attend the Art Reception will be able to attend this event. B. Report on Special work Session with City Council on May 7, 2007 - Three (3) SAB members, Don Wells, Bud Herin, and Marcia Richards, attended the meeting and emphasized senior need for transportation. In order to keep Fort Collins the #1 place to retire, it is important for the City to meet needs and provide necessary services. C. Discussion and appointment of representative to Transportation Coalition per information sent by Marlys Sinner, Transportation — Judy Vasiliauskas will be the representative to the Transit Action Force and Kathy Schuster will act as back-up. D. Update on Expansion Committee - The next meeting is scheduled on May14 at 1:30 p.m. Committee has elected officers: Chair, Bud Herin, Vice -Chair, Jim Barnett, Secretary, Don Wells, and Treasurer, Peggy McGough. Mary Robinson of the United Way advised the committee to "sell" the Senior Center to the community prior to fund raising. She also provided a lot of information about the campaign for the Library District. Peggy McGough feels it is very important to get the City Council out to the Senior Center to see what is happening on a daily basis. E. Update on Bridging the Gap Senior Network Luncheon — The luncheon will be held September 26, 2007 at the Fort Collins Senior Center. At the next planning meeting the paperwork will be reviewed and a caterer chosen. The first mailing is scheduled to go out in July. F. Report on meeting with Mayor - Don Wells and Marcia Richards have not been able to coordinate a meeting with the Mayor but will work on it next week. Kelly Ohlson is hosting a public conversation/district meeting at the Senior Center. G. Don Wells invited the guests from the Loveland Senior Advisory Board to talk about their board. They share a concern for para-transit services. They feel that the Fort Collins SAB has more involvement with City Council than they do in Loveland. H. Liaison Reports 1. Marjorie McTaggart reported: • TRIAD: Marjorie resigned from Advisory Council but they will continue to send her the minutes. The TRIAD Advisory Council is looking for new members. Meetings are held at 9 a.m. on the 4a' Wednesday of each month. • The Women's Commission did not meet in April. The Commission presented the Marcile Wood Award and honored the four top Women's History essay winners at a City Council meeting. • OOA Advisory Council held a "strategy planning" session. The OOA received a grant for funds for respite care. • May 140' will be the Anthology Book Release Party at the Senior Center from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The Anthology is a compilation of work submitted by local authors and is printed every two years. Copies may be purchased at the Senior Center registration desk. 2. Peggy McGough reported: • Bridging the Gap will be held at the Fort Collins Senior Center on September 26, 2007. Paper documents need to be reviewed and a caterer chosen. The first mailing will be in June. • The annual Cemetery Stroll will be honoring the Mayor of Fort Collins. A proclamation will be made at the September 4 City Council meeting to name September 16, 2007 Fort Collins Mayors Day. • The "After Tax Day Golf Tournament" was held at the Mad Russian Golf Course on Saturday, May 5 to raise funds for the Fort Collins Senior Center. • The September SAB Outreach meeting will be held at the Northside Atzlan Community Center. • UniverCity reception will be held May 31. The process has proven to be an exciting time in the City of Fort Collins to see 175 people in 8 different task levels meet on a weekly basis to finalize some dreams and visions for this community. • The Fort Collins Senior Center's nominee for the Volunteer of the Year is Mona Nickerson. Mona was selected for that honor by 2-1-1 and will be honored at a reception at the Ranch in June. Mona Nickerson has volunteered with the Senior Center, specifically hosting the "Donut Make U Wonder" program for over 25 years. • Senior Health and Fitness Day will be May 23. The national event will be celebrated at the Senior Center at an event from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. 3. Kathy Schuster reported: • The freezer at the RSVP office went out this week and they lost a freezer full of frozen meals ready for distribution for the nutrition program. The loss is estimated to be $2,600.00. They have secured more meals from Denver and the surrounding area to cover the immediate needs. • Caring Companions, the new respite care program funded by a four (4) year grant from the Office on Aging is going well. The goal for the first year was to secure 25 volunteers. They presently have 20 volunteers. The next challenge is to ensure that the program has sustainable funding once the monies from the grant run out. • The study completed with other non -profits to try to identify the population that was "falling through the cracks" with food services and distribution is completed. Results show that the "home -bound" under the age of 60 fall in this gap. Meals on Wheels is the only agency servicing this group since these folks cannot get to the food bank and they do not qualify for other services available to seniors. XI. Other Business XII.
