Call Meeting to Order Vice Chairperson Marcia Richards called the meeting to order at 1:30 p.m. A quorum was present. II. Attendance — The attendance sheet was passed around. III. Presentation by Lt. Tom McClellan of the Fort Collins Police Department Lt. McClellan gave a report on different scams involving seniors in the City of Fort Collins. Fort Collins is 50`h in the nation for scams and Greeley is I". People "doing" scams seek communities with lots of money. The scams mostly used are the three card money game, free trip, and Police impersonation. The best solution to stopping scams is to "just say no" . Never give personal information. Don't meet with anyone you don't personally know. Don't allow anyone in your home that you don't know. 3 light system: Green — OK, Yellow — use caution, Red — Not good. Use instincts. Always go where there are people. John McElderry — Rigden Farm Senior Living Manager gave a talk on what is offered at the facility. IV. Presentation to residents of Rigden Farm by Senior Advisory Board V. Public Participation Jill Glaser spoke to the SAB about the condominiums east of Rigden Farm that she and her husband have built and are selling. Her husband, Carl, is a local architect and designed the condominiums. She works with Re/Max and handles the sales. All the condos are designed for all ages and are handicap accessible. VI. Approval of Minutes A motion was made by Peggy McGough to accept the minutes of the February 14, 2007 Marjorie McTaggart second the motion, motion carried. VII. Correspondence - none VIII. New Business A. Joe Bicker, new member of SAB, was introduced to the group. He gave a background history of himself. B. Report on Parks & Recreation focus group — No one from the Senior Advisory Board responded to the invitation. C. Plan for joint meeting with the Loveland Senior Advisory Board — Marcia Richards reported that she has communicated with the LSAB and they are planning to come to the Fort Collins SAB May 9th meeting. The Larimer County Senior Job Fair will be in Loveland on April 18`h from 1:30 to 4:00 p.m. Peggy McGough suggested that the Senior Advisory Board members should offer help. However, after discussion the board decided they wouldn't offer assistance. D. Reminder of training for members of Boards and Commissions — The next training is March 21, 2007. Anyone interested should call the City Clerk's office 221-6515. E. Reminder to return survey regarding Boards and Commissions appreciation event. IX. Old Business A. Report on social meeting with Mayor and City Council — Peggy McGough reported that there are two choices for this meeting: May lst during the opening of the Art Show or May 23`d during the Senior Health & Fitness Luncheon. Board decided to meet on May I't B. Report on BOB Expansion Committee — Bud Herin and Peggy McGough reported that the last meeting was brief. Matt Malcolm attended. Committee has a deadline to have money in the bank by 2012. Joe Bieker expressed an interest in helping on this committee. C. Report on Bridging the Gap — Kathy Schuster reported that the event is scheduled for September 26th. The committee visited the Medical Center of the Rockies. Dr. Diehl will be the speaker. D. Liaison reports 1. Kathy Schuster: Newcomers Club — Kathy contacted Donna Diehl from the Newcomers Club to see if the SAB might coordinate efforts to publicize senior activities, services, and issues to new residents in Fort Collins. The Newcomers Club does host a coffee for those new to the area and information is distributed at that time. The need may already be met. However, Donna Diehl will talk to the President of Newcomers and will get back to us if there are ways the SAB might be helpful. 2. Marjorie McTaggart: TRIAD — no report Women's Commission — March is Women's History Month, as declared by Mayor Hutchison before the March 6t" City Council meeting. Nominations for the Marcile Wood award are due 3/19. Winner will be honored at City Council on April 17, 2007. OOA — Everyone that was present were given a copy of the Four Year Plan. Senior Day at the Capital — There were more present than usual. Loveland SAB — The Loveland SAB will meet with the Fort Collins SAB on May 9, 2007. Human Relations Commission — Nomination forms were handed out. Larimer County Senior Job Fair - Employers are being solicited for the April 18t' Job Fair. Health — There's an overlap between deductions (double vs. refund) from Social Security checks for new enrollment (drug plan) and last year's membership. OOA Council — There are 6 vacancies; County Commissioners will be advertising. XI. Other Business XII. Adjourn A motion was maid by Bud Herin to adjourn the meeting, Dennis Kaz seconded the motion, motion carried.
